Hope I'm on right track

Have been taking tramadol for years. At one point I was up to 45 50mm pills a day. I have had three seizures as a result. I am now in the process of weaning myself off. I have read that cold turkey is not the way to go. I am down to 10  pills per day and while I have felt a little ill at ease, for the most part I feel good. Good not only physically, but mentally knowing I'm on the downhill hill swing. My question is, am I kidding myself or am i really on track to being free of the drug?

Beware that since you have had 3 seizures, you not only have a lower thresh hold for future seizures, but in the future you may continue having them. Sometimes Epilepsy is actually induced by an event such as this, causing just one or two seizures, but your brain never quite resumes 100% the way it used to and you will continue having sporadic seizures as a result of such high usage of the drug for so long.

Be careful- I wouldn't taper without medical assistance at this point. Status Epilepticus can be caused from drug withdrawal as well- and it is very serious.  please contact your doctor and make sure you are being monitored and on other meds to control withdrawal symptoms.

Thanks for the reply. I might have confused you. The three seizures I've had occurred a while ago. In fact the last one was last September. Since then I have been very careful about the amount of tramadol I would take. I just realized that if I didn't just flat out stop taking them, there would be a chance of another episode.
