How do you wean of Subs

Here is my Husband's story, after numerous surgeries, he got addicted to vicadin, percot, oxicotin. We found the miracle drug suboxone so we thought, been taking it over a yr, it makes him feel great while he's on it, but he knows he has to come off because of the expense and the opiate it has in it,He has followed the doc's weaning process, which was 2 mg for a wk, then 2 mg every other day for a wk, then 2mg 3 days for a wk. Then he stopped, everything was great for 2 wk's, until this past wknd.He started having major w/d, could just about function.I thought he was nuts it had been 2 wk's, we then started calling hot lines etc...They said the doc's don't know much about this drug and they are also precribing trazadone to help you sleep. We then found out from our pharmacist that the trazadone he was also taking keeps the subs on your brain receptors longer. Thats why it took him 2 wk's to start w/d.Fortunately, he had some left at the pharmacy to start the weaning process. We don't want to ask the Doc, we think they are a bunch of crooks, they are trying to keep the patients on this as long as possible. They are making a tremendous amount of money on this, they are allowed to have 100 patients on this drug a month. They don't tell you about the w/d and they don't tell you this drug comes from India, that there hasn't been much research on it..Anyway with not much left, does anyone have a schedule we can follow to wean, he needs to have min w/d due  to starting a new job in a couple of weeks as a truck driver. He's been out of work for a yr due to the economy, we need help.God Bless to all who are suffering from this.

Dosage info needs to be done by your doctor .Just let them know he is going to taper off of it whether they believe its to soon or not . I have never heard of trazodone having that effect either but I am sure anything is possible .As Ga has say trazodone has alot of drug interactions its a very old time AD. I realize many doctors have been prescribed it for sleep . I hope his doctor is will to work out a taper plan .Let us know what they say .

Tapers are better left between the doctor and patient. It's also a dosing question, which we're not really supposed to discuss here. Your best bet is to find a competent Suboxone doctor and start a taper with him. It's also important because of the other medications you're husband is taking. I will say that people (myself included ) who've had the least withdrawals eventually weened down their daily Sub dose to less than .5mg a day. I also just now called a guy at my rehab who volunteers there. He's a pharmacist and has never heard that Trazodone keeps Sub in your system longer. He mentioned how Trazodone works with a liver enzyme and has many drug interactions that makes the Trazodone seem twice as effective. I'd love to see the reasearch on this if it's true. Suboxone withdrawals usually start within 72 hours.
