I quite a decent methadone habit cold turkey. Wasnt fun, but I did it. There is no stigma here - this is an equal oportunity addiction site! Feel free to PM me anytime that you would like. Methadone is a monster to quit.....but even monsters can be slain.........Did you have specific questions? Keep posting and asking.....there are answers here.
She told me it took her more than a year before she felt 'right in the head', ie. no longer under the influence of methadone. Previous to taking methadone, her DOC was oxycontin, and she says she wished she had just detoxed from the Oxy, as she felt the withdrawals from the methadone were much worse than what the withdrawals of Oxy would have been.
Maybe the control is a good thing -- if I could just get a 14-day supply, well, yikes.
From what I know, 7mg is way down the scale -- if you can hang on, you could be off the stuff in a bit. Then it's aftercare, always.
Maybe Advil double-strength, hot baths, and getting out, even if just to stare at a fire hydrant ...?
I was on Methadone for 10 months due to a heroine habit a few years back. I was only on 40 to 50 mgs of it. At one point I asked for the big "21-Day Detox" and they gave it to me. And it worked. I felt really OK, kept complaining of various body pains for a few weeks afterward, but Dr told me it was because I was not used to feeling any normal aches and pains and it just seemed painful to me, so I took Tylenol for awhile, and gained a bunch of weight (craved sugar), then eventually forgot about the whole thing for about 25 years. Now I have a Percocet habit I'm working to kick. Cant' get any help from the medical community cuz Im on Medicaid.
But short-term Methadone use helped me kick a nasty habit, with no ill-effects.
and yes there is a stigma here but only with a few stuck up addicts, most people understand that a drug is a drug
you are safe bringing this here, but the best place to seek help for recovery is at a 12step meeting or inpatient facility
methadone and suboxone wd take alot out of people, try and take time off work, ask someone to help you with chores, try not to do to much
my acute wd from mehtadone lasted a few months, then it eased up and i only had symptoms of post acute, i have more about the phases of opiate wd on my home page
i wish there was something i could say to make this easier for you, i have been to these high dollar treatment facilities and they have kept me sedated through the entire detox process, this was the worst thing anyone could have done for me, my last detox in 04 was horrible, i ended up deathly ill, thank god for that, i believe that we all need to feel our detox, if we dont we will return to use, so when i say to someone i wish you a long painful detox, its for the best,
the most important thing now is that you do not return to using a higer dose or another opiate,
do you have any plans to keep you off the drugs after detox?
methadone is just a synthetic opiate, that is stronger and much longer lasting, hence the longer you take it and teh more you take ...the tougher the WDs will be. I was lucky I never did more than 20-30mgs a day.
good news it can be done, with some determination and strength !
