How are you approaching your detox?

How are you approaching your detox?

Once the decision is made to detox...the frame of mind you have is the single most important thing to ensure a successful detox.  Positive thinking can mean the difference in bearable vs. unbearable.  By fearing and dreading the withdrawals, you are putting your body, mind and spirit on the defensive, ready to fight it each step of the way.  What seems to ease this is acceptance.  As unpleasant as withdrawals are, embrace the feelings you are having, recognize all of the symptoms as they are...necessary to rid you of whatever your drug of choice is.
This is one of the most important decisions many of us will make, we cannot make it lightly.  There are many changes we all have to make - we cannot expect different results without a different approach.
Best of luck to everyone.
Peace

I totally agree, I try to get my mind right, but I still cant stop dreading the wd's. I get anxiety just thinking about it. I know I need to stop before its too late, but Im so weak. How do I build myself up to really do this? Im so afraid of how Im gonna feel when Im clean. Who Im gonna snap on, who Im gonna hurt, depression. I use these drugs to keep my spirits up. I want in a program where I dont have access, where I dont need so much willpower, but there are none now, and I'm ready now. So how can I mentally prepare myself to do this?

Have you seen the movie 'The Secret'?  It can be a useful tool.
Meditiation and positive visualization works wonders.  Constantly visualize yourself free from pills...happy, disciplined, energetic, etc.
Music can also help alot...we actually compiled some songs that seemed to give us some much needed strength.
In my journal you will find what we used to make this transition easier,,,
Best of luck and hang in there.  The support and compassion here is amazing.

What you said is so true, thats what made the difference this time for me.I tried many times to stop taking the vic's and I would chicken out everytime, thats why I started doing         the methodone. Today is day 10 comming off of 25mg. coldturkey, this detox is soooooooooooooo much worse, but this time I was just ready for it. I just keep telling myself tomorrow will get a little easier, this isn't going to last forever.I am facing the pain from my addiction, and eventhough my body still doesn't feel that great,my mind and my spirit are the happiest they've been in years. THANKS for the inspirational thought. Blessings.

Anytime you need to talk or have any questions...please let me know.
Methadone is a terrible drug long overdue to be re-evaluated since it was made during WWII.  I could go on and on and on and on and on about methadone (and I did in my journal)...that is awesome that you opted to come off of it!
The mental clarity is incentive enough...and if it isn't - the sexual restoration should do it!
You are doing great - I wish I could have been here for you during the worst times...my pc screen died...a long agonizing death.  Thank God it did not happen 3 weeks ago!
