How long can I expect to feel withdrawl symptoms??

by Sage, Jan 17, 2000 12:00AM
I have been addicted to Xanax and Klonopin, as well as any other downers I can get my hands on for about a year now. I finally decided to stop cold turkey so I could get my life back and start feeling like my old self again. The original reason for the abuse was a lot of terrible things that happened to me all at once and they seemed like the answer to calm me down.

I have stopped taking them all cold turkey as of three weeks ago. I was taking up to 8 xanax's per day and 5 klonopin's. I expected withdrawl and have had it very bad (chills, aches, sleeplessness and irritability) but I am wondering when I can expect this to stop. I certainly can't go on like this for too much longer. I just need a basic timeframe so I can know that I WILL once again feel normal, since I have absolutely decided not to go back to the drugs. It's ok if it's a month or more, I just need to know!!!
Thanks very much :)

Hi Sage,
responding to your addiction to xanax, I was on a daily dose for over 10 years, Klodon's well never got "hook" put in the time fram yeh now the high, mine was for stress, to go to sleep, but never to "party" the abuse started and took more than what i should, I think when i finally presented it the doc.....she didn't reazlie I was up to 10-15 1mg's a day that was just at night as my body built the tolerance,( 8 years) and given for stress,( well who the heck doesn't have stress)? then I went on a mission, since I got screwed up by a doc who wasn't suppose to give them to me, and when she did, I will take responsibility, and saying I "pushed the envelope", now with faced with an addiction that scared the hell out of me, as I was told it was worse than herion detoxing from, or any other hard core drugs,I scaled down to .05
10- 15 mgs, dwn to .05 was NOTHING< and yeh NO sleep for at least a month, when I finally got to the point where I could sleep and woke up the first time and said ****, I just got 4 hours sleep and not "drug" induced.......it will be 1 year next week, and yes sleep does come back, and so does some form of sanity, you just have to know you want no more, and hang with it, and mean it,believe me your life will be much better.....but then again you have heard that before......one month to get my first solid sleep but not long, by second month, I knew I was there......
much luck,
and blessings......

Hi Alex, welcome to the forum. First , you'd get more responses if you made a seperate post, this thread is very old.
Second, when was your last pill taken? Withdrawels usually last 4-7 days depending on how many, how long and what you've been taking. keep posting, but start your own new post, so we can all jump in and help and give you the support you'll need.

You are lucky because it can be very dangerous to quit benzos  cold turkey...but at 3 weeks you seem to be doing well.  I understand that you do not feel well, but you are very strong and are well on your way.
A good friend of mine had the same addiction...she quit in December and still has sweats.  But it is nothing unbearable...you must do this.  That was a smart decision you made to quit and I commend you for that.  This forum helps a lot...there is so much support here so post often.
Check out the info regarding the importance of vitamins!

LOL   At the top of this page theres a green button that says "POST A QUESTION", click on that  and it will start a whole new post and alot of people will respond to you.
If today is your first day off the stuff, you have about another 4 days till you start to feel much better. Day 2 and 3 are usually the worst. There is a thing called the Thomas receipe that can help you thru it. Start another post, like I said and then I'll put the thomas receipe on there for you.
