How long do you need to stop before it gets easier?

by lb87, Oct 13, 2009 11:20AM
i hear after a certain amount of weeks/months years less and less percent of people will go back to their addictions.
Does any one know how many months before it gets easier with coke?
im in a bad place right now and relapsed after a long time, ive finaly come to realise the main trigger ... alcohol does this mean i need to stop this too?

basicaly i relapsed coz i started doing legal meo powder. when i stoped this i went back to coke for something to sniff. its just a vicious circle.
i feel so down at the moment my noose is blocked i feel like **** :( i did it every other day since last thursdya and thats preety bad for me. i even missd work because of it and i havnt done that in YEARS!

So glad i have the internet back so i can post on here or i may go mad

Sorry I do not know anything about coke.  I do however know about addiction.  My doc is pills.  I do know you are human and sometimes part of recovery is relapse.  Some of us have to make the mistakes to learn from them.  All you can do is pick your self up and try, try, try again.  You have come to the right place if you are ready to get clean.  Keep posting we are all here for you.  There will be someone on here that knows something about coke.  Stay strong.  Good luck.  Keep posting

thanks :)
i know it was this site that helped me beat it before, i am soooo much better than i was was just curious about the time it takes for our brains to change.

ive set my tracker back to 0 (well 1 day now) and i am only going to drink when in company where i will not even think of using and even then im going to have to go easy. maybe just the one glass or bottle rather than getting drunk ;)

I think the furthest i ever got cleaan was 4 months. 3rd time lucky as they say i hope bu xmas i can say i havent touched any!

In terms of how long: remember every day clean is a better day. I once heard that it takes something like 21-28 days for the body to clean itself up. But the reasons you get high are still the there, clean or sober. That's why therapy and or groups at least at first at so important. You need lots of models, people who are clean and stayed clean, people to call in a crisis. About the alcohol thing. I stopped alcohol 26 years ago but continued drugs...so I felt kind of proud and overlooked the addiction. Every drug is a drug and they continue the behavior that is behind the using. As addicts we need to learn how to live clean and sober, as they say. Can't say that I have done it. But I believe there are people who live without needing drugs to feel good.

Another line of thinking is to quit your addictions in the order they are killing you. Worst stuff first.
Good luck and keep posting.

Welcome back Ib, i missed ya:( Everyone is different on how long it takes for our brains to start rewiring themselves again, sometimes it depends on how long, how much and the drugs we used. As you know, my DOC is the same as yours. It took me a month for that fog to lift and the first 3 months for me was the toughest. I remember around 6 months clean, I truly felt like myself again, I could go out and not worry about relapse as much as before, I started to live again and didn't have to battle it day in and day out, but most of us addicts have to make changes to keep our sobriety. We will always be addicts, if you admit to being one? I had to stay away from those that use, that was a must, when i had those couple relapses, it was mostly alcohol that made me crave cocaine, so maybe it's time you stop drinking totally?

I remember talking to you before you lost the internet and you had done a couple lines again here and there and said that you would not go back. One line or 1 pill is never enough, that just feeds our addiction and makes us weak again. Sorry this is long, but I know how you feel and it ***** bad. Your nose will feel better in a couple days, but you need to prepare for those coke cravings and how to beat em.

Are you willing to get any type of aftercare? PM me anytime:)

Thanks to you both a lot to think about there.
Ive decided to stop alcohol for a while and see how that helps.
I was reading an old post the other day from you gizzy about how the day after 4 months you started again, I think this happened to me too. Thing is once you start using again you loose track of time, I hate this my memory just becomes so bad I know what you mean by the fog.

If I can set my sites for that 4 month mark and then try to push for 6 months I think that will be a good step in the right direction, but writing this now makes me realise I need to take each day/week as it comes, I think relapsing in a way does make you stronger every time.

Heres to another go at sober living :)

One day at a time lb, you can do this. I remember we did relapse the same day awhile ago, it sucked. Congrats on doing this again, your gonna feel a lot better in a day or 2 also.
