How long does this last?

I started taking hydrocodone about 2 and a half years ago when I broke my foot in a motorcycle accident and never found a good reason to stop. I'm 21 years old and The most I've ever taken in one day was about 9 10mg but that on one occasion and besides that I've never taken more than 7. My daily use is about 5 10mg tablets for the past 2 years after my prescription expired and it's never affected my school work, job, or social life so I've never really had a good reason to quit but now my girlfriend of almost a year is heavily against it so I'm trying to quit for her. I'm on day 2 of being clean and so far I've had to deal with diarrhea and leg cramps. What else do I have to look forward to and how long does this last? I appreciate all answers and feedback. Thank you all and God Bless!

Congrats on deciding to quit before your situation got a lot worse like me and many others on here but first thing first here is even tho you are on a low dose if you don't want to quit like u said and are just stopping for her it will be almost impossible because as me and many others on here will tell you and anyone else trying to quit for someone else and not for yourself just doesnt work  not your mom dad girlfriend grandma or whoever wants u to quit if your number 1 doesn't want to quit then you won't quit

Hi and welcome . . . and congratulations on your decision to quit the pills - you will never regret this.  The worst of the w/d usually lasts about 5 to 7 days with the worst at about day 2 to 3 (everyone is different, so it could be a bit more or less either way).  Check out the Thomas Recipe (link on the bottom right of this page) for some suggestions of things to help get you through the detox stage.  The diarrhea and leg cramps are real common symptoms.  Try Immodium - helps SO much, and a hot tub soak w/Epsom salts will help relax you a bit and help with the leg cramping.  Magnesium tablets helped me a lot with the restless feeling and even with sleep.  You really need to keep yourself hydrated and eat (even protein drinks if you don't feel like food).  Vitamin Water Revive was a great help to me in those first few days - full of B's, C, potassium and electrolytes.  It is not fun, but it is temporary - you can get through this.  And trust me - nipping the habit now while you are young is the right thing to do.  I lost almost 15 years to pills - and it happened before I ever knew what hit me.  Stay close to this site, there are lots of people who have been through this or are doing it now.  It is a little slow today; but you will get more feedback. Keep posting with any questions you have.  Hang in there....it will get better!
