Thanks everyone! I will say that I am only taking 1 pill 5mg also. I had never taken it before and I literally think I am out 5 minutes later. My husband has even been having to turn the tv off when he comes to bed. That never happens to me! I normally have horrible insomnia when I am going through withdrawals and cannot sleep at all. I am going to take the Ambien tonight and go find that Alteril tomorrow.
I think around 5 to 7 days is reasonable if you truly need it. After that amount of time it's a good idea to allow yourself to go back to sleeping naturally again.
And GOOD for you for acknowledging the possible pitfalls with this!
I just wanted to warn you that ambien can become habit forming after about 3 weeks of use. At least for me it is. The withdrawal from it is no big deal after a month or so of use. You just won't be able to sleep for a few nights and you may have some night terrors and anxiety. But for me that only lasts a few days. I have to take something as a back up after I stop. Like OTC sleeping aids. But personally I think it's worth it to use during withdrawals. Just to get over the hump. I know some might not agree but it has been helping me. I have taken it on and off for 6 months and have had little problems as long as I only use it short term. Using it long term and then stopping has been said to be horrible.
Alteril is a great all-natural sleep aid, and I think it works better than the melatonin (at least for me.) I used Ambien for years on and off and the Alteril works better than that as well!
Congrats Lily!!!! Can you try melatonin or another natural sleep aid? The longer you take Ambien the longer it will take for you to be able to fall asleep naturally. On the other hand, I know insomnia is maddening. I would try something natural. Take a hot bath or shower before bed, buy some sleepy time tea and try melatonin. Hope that helps.
Hi Lily, even if Ambien isnt addictive, its still a habitual pattern.Your brain has become used to a substance to induce sleep. When i was in Treatment, the drug they gave us to sleep was Trasadone, its and old-school anti-depressant used a low-doses to make you sleep.I is not addictive, but like anything it is habit forming. see ya John
