How many of you found clonidine to help oxycodone withdrawal?

I have searched all around this forum and have messaged with IBKleen-just curious to see how many people really made it through the withdrawal easier/anxiety with this medication? I have tapered from just 30-40mgs of oxycodone a day to 5mg a day in a very short time. Just having a tough time with anxiety/feeling like way high blood pressure-and am starting clonidine in the morning. I do have a history of high blood pressure. Thanks to everyone out there sharing their stories and support!!! (I did go to doctor)

Most doctors won't give you valium, but it's the longest acting benzodiazepe. The Clonidine holds back the nausea, the cravings, the diarrhea to some extent. The valium will quell the muscular cramping, aid in stopping nausea. Slow the room from spinning. Stop the shakes. The only winning combo for me! Best of luck!

I find it helps, I tried not taking it cause it makes me feel weak but it does help, I didn't take it one night and was really agitated craving a fix really bad.  I'd stay on it.  I have a months supply, don't know if Ill take it for that long but if something helps I take it I also find klonopin a live saver, really reduces the anxiety.  It's used in some detox facilities.  But it does make you feel weak so stay quiet and don't get up to fast cause you'll get the spins.........good luck

Thank you all for your answers and your experiences with the clonidine! So far,(although I am sure to be facing more) the other withdrawal symptoms that I have been having while tapering-have not been pleasant-but I have made it through them. The anxiety/blood pressure thing scared me alot.
To IBKleen: Thank you for your concern and help. And yes I will continue to post!!

I wrote a very personal comment here about a past "doctor" and klonopin.  It seems to have disappeared.  Did anyone see it?

Thank you for posting this in the forum as I suggested you do.

I don't mind talking privately regarding some issues, but I am concerned when someone comes to me with a question/concern for which I am not familiar. Clonidine, as I stated, is NOT a med that I was prescribed so I don't have experience with it. I was unable to help you and I am glad to see that you are asking questions here.

Take care and good luck!

Clonidine has been used for decades to help ease some of the withdrawals from opiates. Its highly recommended if you don't already have blood pressure issues.

The sleepy part was kinda fun.  I'd sit on the couch to watch TV in the evening while my wife was at work...and next thing I knew she was trying to wake me up...

One thing I thought was great..on my second day of withdrawl (a Monday) I was
able to go to work without any problems, though I was a zombie and not very communicative with people.  Those that I trusted, I explained what was going on and they were very supportive and a couple weeks later were telling me "It's good to have the old Jim back"..

oh yeah...forgot to mention the dry mouth. Beargizmo is correct..stock up on hard candies.  It had the opposite affect on me and i did not get sleepy but again i think it was the wd.  I did not sleep for 8 days straight until my doctor gave me prescription sleeping pills.  I think everyone else it made them sleepy.  Alot of ppl liked that side effect to help them sleep at night.

I used it for detoxing off of vicodin..a wonder drug..I was in withdrawal when I took my first dose (.1mg) and within a couple of hours felt so much better.  Yes, it makes you sleepy and dry mouthed.  At the same time I was taking klonopin for anxiety and between the 2 of them I was a zombie..the first few days I fell asleep
while a) on a work conference call (fortunately all I had to do was listen...I can't remember if I was on mute or not..hope I didn't snore) b) sitting here at my computer reading this board..my daughter came home and found me sleeping in my chair hands on the keyboard.

The dry mouth is a problem...get a bunch of hard candies to keep around..they help.  But it definitely worked for me..I took it for 30 days .1mg 3x day, then after that was down to 2x/day then 1.5, then 1 then .5 for 30 days.  I have a pacemaker and didn't want to have a sudden spike in my bp though I've never had a problem with bp.

I only took it for so long because i was having trouble getting over the wd's.  I was taking oxycontin for 4 yrs so my wd's were bad.  I also think it might have taken longer because i could not take the full dosage. Most people usually take if for 1-2 wks and taper off.  it all depends on how long you need it.  i know it does help as when i did take it the wd got better.  I wish you all the best, you can do this.

It is the number one med as far as usefulness.  I only used it for the first week.  Makes you feel extremely sleepy.  I detoxed myself a dozen times, and everytime I made sure I had clonidine.

Three cheers for clonidine!

I took it for almost 30 days and it did help me be able to go cold turkey.  I was not able to take the full dose as my bp kept dropping.  I do think it helps so it is worth it to try.  good luck

I was on oxy and then self medicated with subutex for about 3 months....I eventually tappered down to .5 mg of the sub. I hinestly think if it wasn't for the clonidine I would have relapsed way earlier...
