ADDICTION: SUBSTANCE ABUSE COMMUNITY

I am in need of some advice, i looked everywhere and have found no help. My ex husband of whom I was with for 9 yrs, has been taking Adderall (adderrall) for about 2 1/2 years. He is not prescribed this medication. He gets it from someone he knows thats prescribed it. He says it helps him concentrate at work and gives him the "get up and go".  It does do that i have seen him after he takes it. He takes up to 90 mg a day sometimes less but not more than 90 mg. He says he is not addicted but he tries to stop and he feels like **** and cant make hisself do anything without it. He has never had a problem with drugs or addiction before this. I dont know what to do!!! I feel like it has changed him so much. We were divorced on December 17, 2007. I feel like after he started taking this medication our problems got worse than they were.  He became more violent on Adderall (adderrall).. Neways i know this is a long one but I really need to talk about this with someone. Even though were not together i still worry about this and his safety... If anyone can help it is greatly appreciated. ty

Adderall is an amphetamine. And it's addictive much like cocaine is. Maybe someone with personal experience with cocaine could jump in?

Look up 'amphetamine psychosis' and 'dopamine hypothesis of psychosis/schizophrenia' to see how extended use of amphetamine can change a person psychologically. Becoming violent is only the tip of the iceberg of everything it can cause to happen to a person emotionally.

The reason he can't or won't feel like doing anything without it is because amphetamines cause a massive release of dopamine (which is the chemical that provides us with feelings of desire/want/motivation) when used. But then leaves the brain incapable of producing enough dopamine as it should in the wake of that artificially boosted production. So more amphetamine has to be taken to feel ok or to have any motivation again... very quick cycle into addiction.
