How to find a rehab specializing in pain management and addiction

by Andi, Jun 03, 2001 12:00AM
I have a loved one who needs help fast and is WANTING the help.  She had over a dozen sober years in the program, but was in a car accident and suffers from degenerative joint disease and lupus.  Over the last 5 years she has progressively become re-addicted to prescription meds -- pain killers; narcotics like morphine -- and is reaching a new "bottom". She called me for help and wants to go into a hospital or rehab setting to be detoxed off of EVERTHING in an effort to discover her true problems and needs and then have them addressed in a non-addictive manner.  She is willing to go to any lengths and go to any state in order to find the right treatment.  She knows it could take months to get on the road to true recovery again and she wants to do this.  She has also become readdicted to smoking and wants to be smokefree as well.  Does anyone out there know of the right place for this person? She is 50 years old and if she doesn't receive the help she needs now, I fear her bottom will be death and very soon.  Thank you in advance for helping!

I don't know if they are willing to travel to Canada; if so here is a treatment center in Hamilton, Ontario:

http://www.chedoke.ca/

They have pain programs as well as drug rehab. Chedoke is also affiliated with McMaster University.

Just look in the phone book under addiction/recovery. There are many places that can help. Good luck!

go to yahoo/yellow pages. type in "physicians pain management." You'll have to set the location (town) as well, but unless you're in antarctica, a bunch of names should pop up. Good luck.

Hi Andi,

I don't want to have to repeat myself so please check out my postings to Niccee regarding methadone withdrawl - zinc is really what you are looking for.
