How to use the Thomas Recipe while you ween off vicodin

My sister and I are trying very hard to ween off of pain killers.  This is difficult, I found the Thomas Recipe but it seems to be referring to cold turkey. I have two young boys, a dead beat ex and can't be down for all that time.  I am very proud as I am down to 6 pills a day from about 15 a day (and before that 4-40mg oxycontin every day).  I can't seem to get below 6 as the w/d is to painful.  I thought I might be able to combine this Thomas recipe with the weening process.  Can anyone help us?

question i need help for my sister is it ok to take methadon pills an do the thomas recipe ????? im doing any an everything to get my sister better.

Hi, I have been taking hydrocodone here and there for this past year, but three months ago I hurt my hand and my short addiction started then. I started with a prescripton of the 5/500 which they only gave me like 20 of and I build such a high tolerance that they were gone in a few days. Then all of a sudden all of these pills started coming my way. To make a long story short, I have been taking 3-5 10/325mg of norcos a day. I basically just take them to feel normal now, and sometimes I just want to get high so I take a little more. I feel like its a vicious cycle where I get to the point of wanting to ween myself off, so I start to ween, then I realize there are enough pills to get high just one more time, then I start to hurt, and then I buy some more in a large dose, then I get high here and there, but still have to always take enough to not hurt, then I want to ween again, etc. I know that I need to work on the psychological part of not wanting to get high anymore, but I am just really wondering what a good way to ween off would be. I never make it far enough. Should I start with 3, then 2, then 2, then 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1, 1, 1, .5, .5, .5, .5 ?? Or something along those lines? I know my addiction hasn't been long, but I feel like for being a 5'2" 120lb girl that 5 of those a day isn't going to be easy to ween off of. Before I was up to 5 a day and I was somewhat weening, I experienced the night sweats and shakes and insomnia so I know I don't have the strength for cold turkey, especially with my new job, school, and I'm moving. Sorry for the long post, I'm just not sure what to do. I think weening is my best bet as long as I can get past the "last high" problem I keep having. Any advice would help. Thanks.

U have posted on an old post,,,posting a new post will draw more attn to ur needs...kim715 has way more experience with methadone than most here..eagle can help as well...they will read ur post and respond to it soon..late and is saturday night..

i have taken methadone short term for pain..no addiction experience tho..i do know most taper on down but it is still a drawn out wd process due to the long half life of methadone...the thomas recipe, exercise, determination and education of recovery/with aftercare included will win everytime

what is ur current dose so they can help u more efficiently?

can someone help me please i have been on methodone for a little over a year and its only been a few days and im going through w/d bad i cant eat, sleep, i dont wont to be around anyone i hurt all over and i have tryed talking to people and all they say is, is not hard to stop just stop right now. but they really have no idea how it is. its not that easy for me. so can some one please help me

Thanks for the reply, I am going to go to GNC and buy what I need...I am sick of this life, 8 years of pain killers...I still have pain and now just take them to feel normal

you can begin the vitamins and amino acids anytime during the taper..i did..you may even begin using the anti-anxiety/sleep meds in your taper as long as you use anything addictive like benzos sparingly and with caution...you feel WDs while u taper..this is normal..stick to your plan and the thomas recipe can help tremendously...also look at the amino acid protocol and the article on tapering that is in the health pages
