Hydrocodone Witdrawel Day 3

Hello to all. I just wanted to post and say that I am on day 3 of hydrocodone withdrawal(some oxycodone all for lower back pain). During my 2 plus year addiction I have done this withdrawel hell to many times. This going to be the last. I am having really rough nights and mornings because I can't get to sleep and I am self medicating to get to sleep. My goal is to get away from putting all of this stuff, supplements, other perscription drugs like flexeril which is all I have to knock me out. Supplements can only do so much for me, I am out of xanax, but I want to stick it out I don't want any more perscriptions of my own. I have been depressed, tried St. Johns wort which works very very mildly for me right now (I started it before I went cold Turkey for about a month.)

Anyhow my head is still very cloudy, depression is there and I know it will get better but it is just great to see you all hear for support. This is the first time I have done this as I am trying to be more pro-active this time around instead of re-lapsing after a month or two.  I appreciate your kind words.

I am on day two of coming off if Vicodin and Percocet, the only thing making me want to relapse is the restless leg feelings; it's to the point of driving me crazy.
Any suggestions on what I can do ?
Please help, I want to get through this.

just found out this weekend that my husband has a vic addiction.  he thought he was depressed, but was taking vic to help with stress @ work.  it is the vic that is causing brain fog etc.  he can't concentrate, has trouble making decisions, lack of motivation.  all signs of depression, he had diagnosed himself, AFTER he started regularly taking the vicodin!!!  back surgery in '02, problems off and on occasionally with back pain but NEVER problems with the meds until now.  i always kept them under lock and key just because i know they are so addictive, and wanted to know if his back was hurting, he tries to hide it from us some times.  found the pills, and went through the 2 bottle stash last oct - mid jan for a tooth ache and headaches from the toothache....until he ran out and i found out the pills were missing.  took care of the tooth and then he hurt back shoveling snow in march.  took a pill a day for several days.  all of a sudden realized that took the edge off stress @ work, so one day when it was a 'bad' day, he took the last pill in that bottle and it 'helped'.  that is how it started.  he looked high and low for the two bottled i had hidden as a pad just to have on hand when he had a flare up with his back.  took the one bottle to work to help on bad days.  from the middle of April until last week....he went through about 43 pills, 500 mg.  not daily (mon - fri) until july, then it got heavier, if not taking 1 after lunch daily, almost daily.  my question, is this a physical addition or a mental dependency?  the remaining 19 have been flushed.  what else do i need to get out of the house?  i have fiorinol that i take occasionally for migraines, but i have Imitrex, so i don't have to have the fiorinol, should i ditch it?  Cough syrup that has hydrocodone in it?  should it go? Flexeril w/cod - please, tell me, should all of this go??  Thanks!

Hey all. I am on Day 5 and feeling better. I still am having moments of brain fog, and uncomefortableness that I can't explain at times, but it is so good to feel my body really starting to have moments of feeling alive again. I did a light work out this morning and that was great. I set up my drumset and am starting to be inspired by music ...  I am going home to visit my family in 9 days and I really want to feel super so that is a huge goal to stay very motivated. Any how just trying to keep things real positive.

I am sure, I have never been in the hospital, don't plan on goin'. I appreciate the strong statements, they need to be heard. You have been through a lot. Looks like you might need to do a very slow taper down, and have a serious plan for when you get to the Cold Turkey part. Good Luck!!!! Tnx.

I just had surgery last week and prior to that I had about 1 week clean.  I just knew I would start using after the surgery.  In fact I kinda was looking forward to the surgery so I'd have a legitimate reason for the drug use.  I KNOW I could have dealt with the pain after using non-narcotics or at least told my docs so they would give me the minimum but what did I do???  I kept saying the morphine wasn't working so they'd give me more.  Then when they sent me home with a script for dilaudin I said it made me itch too bad so I wanted oxy.  That way I would have 2 scripts. Then when the oxy supposedly ran out they called me in ES vic's.  When the three of those ran out it was time for my regular vic refill (from a different doc).  I've decided to use these 84 reg vics to taper down. Since I've been progressively getting weaker drugs (dilaudin, oxy, ES vic) I'm hoping the 84 I have will be enough.  Right now I'm taking 2 every 4 hours and that has been enough in the past to keep the w/d's away but I think with the higher drugs from last week it raised my tolerance so I'm scared.  I've been able to taper with as little as 5 pills left (my typically daily dose is 10 5mg vics) without the typical symptoms except of course the mental boredom.

sorry for hijacking the post but I wanted to point out that being in the hospital can be your worst nightmare.

I agree with kyjobr. That is where I am at....I basically will need to be in the hospital to take it again. My mind has played tricks on me and I know I am an addict now for sure and so I need to recognize that I can't ever take just one pill..........

If you are truly addicts then your plan of just taking the pills when you need them if not going to work.  You wouldn't be where you are (on this website looking for help) if you could only take them when you truly needed them.  You will find that your mind plays tricks with you and "creates" pain in order to justify the usage.

I was on them for a year. That is what I told myself....

I had Major Lower back pain at times...It is just so easy to relapse if you are prone to addiction or taking them regularly and the dependency is like a broken record. This is my 3rd or 4th time and I need to take every precaution that there is. Once I did it with a large stash at hand....

I am sure you need them for your back when the pain is out of control. So would I. I think maybe I will start a pain scale and follow it religiously. Like only take a  pill if the pain is a 7 or higher. Something like that. I don't know but holy cow I really can't afford to go through this any more. My business has suffered. My relationships have. My whole livelihood. Somtimes the pain is just worth going through the way I am thinking of it at this moment without the heavy meds. I used to think , oh yeah just take one for whatever. I really do need some counseling. As you can see my whole deal is to be pro-active. I just hope to help save any possibility that you could relapse........

I still have 3 refills on my script, but of course I took more than I was spose to and can only fill it once a month. I am never goingto have to go through this again. I do have an ongoing back problem, I may get the refills filled just to have them around on bad days. I just hope tommarrow is better!! Thanks

Well I am certainly not an expert, but for the body aches, definitely a jaccuzzi or hot bath. You can do this as much as you wan't and it really helps. I can't sleep either. It is driving me up the wall. Nothing will work. I have had xanax in the past, I know that works for me but I have a rough groggy AM. Valluum should do the same but I would only use them a few times to get good sleep.

I am having a rough day 4 as well. I know for sure good days are right around the corner.

Are you going to the doctor for more Vicaden?

you seen the Thomas Recipe? You can search for it on here. Lemme know if you can't find it and I will copy / paste it for you.

You are almost through the worst part.  Hang in there I have been 15 days cold turkey!!  I am finally feeling normal again.  Able to sleep at night on my own and the Restless Leg Syndrome is also going away.

Pain meds actually change your whole body's way of functioning.  You have to re-train it to function on its own again.  Try to stay busy this always helps me.

Good Luck

Hey man, you are really doing the right thing, it is a virtual enslavement. It does not seam like you have taken an excessive amount...that said eveyone is different chemistries and I am pretty sensative.

OK here is what I suggest. If you are on day 4 then probably the worst is over. Time seems to slow down. Make some goals, like 1 month 3 month 6 month and 1 year. I have relapsed many times and am determined to do it again. I isolated myself though. Now I am being very proactive. I am posting here, talking to drug counselors. After a few weeks you will feel good. That is not a long time when you are on the ****, but when you are coming off it plays on you. Be real strong. I get depressed, you kind of have to go with it but try to put on something funny, or books you can focus on. Anything postive that you can just zone out on for a long time. I also have trouble sleeping. That is a big part of the suffering. In the past I have had xanax, and I am trying a lot of lighter **** now but it does not seem to work. I am just going to have to be tough and suck it up for another week as I am on Day 4 as well.

Since we are both on day 4, we can concievably campare notes. I just rambled a lot and I care not to edit it, so let me know yout thoughts. What are your main symptoms?

I think also, that perspective is key...it could be a lot worse, we all have necessary pain in life. I am determined for natrual high's and smooth sailing after this 2.5 year roller coaster....

To be honest, I had to google Midrin to see what was in it. I haven't used this before. Maybe someone here could give some info on it? You may want to post a question with the drugs name in it. It may solicit a better response.

Have you tried or heard of anyone trying Midrin. My girlfriend has it for headaches, I could take 1 or 2 before bed as it has Dichlorphzn which is a mild sedative?

The clonidine was a miracle for me. It's a prescription med for blood pressure. By lowering your bp, it lessens many of the wd symptoms like anxiety, chills, sweats, and for me, the aches and pains. Your doc would probably write it for you easily if you call and tell them why you want it. I used 1 .1mg tab in the morning and afternoon, and took 2 .1mg tabs at night to help me sleep. I also took my BP often and skipped doses if I felt the least bit faint. Hope this helps..

Hey Man,

I really appreciated your advice. I am definitley going to look into Clonidine...
Sub-lingual B I have taken in the past, definitely worth a shot.

I am just glad to know that I am not going through this all alone this time.

Best ...
