Hydrocodone and Pregnancy

I have been taking hydrocodone about four 10mg 325 a day since I was like 9 weeks pregnant. I have a hole in my tooth that causes me alot of pain. Im currently 27 weeks along and I want to stop taking them soon so my baby doesn't go through withdrawls. If I stop at 30 weeks will my baby still go through withdrawls at birth? I take less than I'm suppose to and I do not abuse them. All of my prenatal screenings have come back normal so I dont think the meds have had any effect on him. And my OB said he should be fine but hasnt said anything about me stopping yet. I just don't want to mention withdrawls to him because I dont want him to think wrongly. Any positive advice would be helpful.

OTC carry alot of risks on unborn babies and need to be monitered very carefully also. I say wean slowly with docs help and get tooth pulled. How much have you spent on the RX? It is probbly very close to price of the pulling. I do apologize for seeming alittle harsh here but it sounds like something alittle bit more maybe going on here. Best wishes on getting through all of this and I do mean well.

I'm confused here...Why are you willing to deal with the pain of a bad tooth when you can get it treated?  It doesn't make sense...

A bad tooth can be very serious whether pregnant or not. The risk of systemic infection is great and not a good thing.

Please discuss all of this with your doctor, okay?

This is something you really need to talk to your OB about.  She can monitor you while you taper down.  Going cold turkey is not usually recommended.

I dont know if I will have wds im scared i will. I had one tooth pulled already and I have another hole. The cost is 325$ to have it done. My husband is the only one working right now. We make more than enough to live on, I just want to stop taking them and deal with the pain for now. I just want to know basically if I stop now will the baby be born addicted to them? i have never gone into preterm labor. I stopped cold turkey at 17 weeks and started taking them again at 20 weeks when I had the tooth pulled and the onther one started. i had no cramping or anything from stopping cold. I only take up to 4 and the bottle says 2 every 4 hours. I take less than that. I just want to know if I stop now will there be a chance of withdrawls with the baby. my doctor is aware i take them I just dont want to put my baby through that.

Im curious as to why you dont get the hole in your tooth fixed? That way you wouldnt need pain pills. I do know that a tooth ache is one of the worse pains so understand the need for pain meds. Since you are pregnant I would ask your dr if it is okay to stop cold turkey or if you should taper or what? Dont take any chances with an unborn child. Everything that goes in you goes into your baby....take care and good luck whatever you do.

If your doctor is aware of your dose, then most likely it is a safe dose.  Most do not get addicted on a prescribed dose unless prone to it or if the person is abusing them...then you need to talk to your doctor as the pediatrician who is at the birth needs to be aware.
There are no doctors here, and advice such as that should come from him/her

why r u thinking u will have wds?
