Hydrocodone withdrawal..

I honestly don't even know how much I took a day.. or for how long. It's been about two years.. And every time I felt bad (every time the previous batch of pills wore off) I would take more. Any where from 2 hydros that were like 10mg each up too around 6000mg of stuff including migraine medicine and Ibuprofen. On top of that I was drinking and smoking A LOT.. I went cold turkey off everything four days ago.. It's been hell. First I couldn't sleep, Then I couldn't stop shaking.. Now I've been throwing up for the past three or four hours. I don't know what to do. If I should just wait it out or if there is some kind of home remedy.. But I know that going to the hospital or detox is not an option. Any help would be appreciated..

My family doesn't know. They just think I'm sick. But I have a friend who has been through it and is kind of like a life line I always have a way to contact him. And another friend who has been staying the night at my house the nights its gotten really bad, He keeps me from going for quick relief. So I have help. And I know that you guys are here to. Thank you again for being here for me.

Oh...How wonderful! So, glad the ginger worked & that your med didn't contain a Barb. I just wanna' tell you that if you're sleeping 5 to 6 hours a night @ 5 days, that's Fantastic news! Also, (now I can do this because I know..) -- A HUGE congrats on day 5!

Do you have any support around you? Anyone who knows what you're going through/doing who's sober? We're Here.

Thank you so much for all of the tips! And the encouragement! I have cut off the sources already. That is the first thing I did because this is the fourth time I've been through attempting to quit and I am determined to make it work this time.

I am on day five now. The migraine meds didn't contain a barbiturate. And yes I am sleeping now. I went three days with no sleep, then two nights ago slept for about 5 hours and last night slept about 6 hours. Thank you for the words of encouragement :) They are really helping. As well as the ginger thing, it worked.

Hey there & Welcome. Congrats on your Cold Turkey off 'everything' (Wow! Hi Five to you!) & thanks so much for reaching out.

I just want you to know that you're Definitely in the right place & you're not alone! I want to second everything that my friend ariley13, above, said. I know what you're going through is rough, rough, rough but I'd like you to know that you CAN do this. I'd add that hot salt (table salt, epsom or magnesium salts) baths as needed are indispensable during early detox.

When you say 'at first I couldn't sleep', does that mean you're now sleeping? (If so that's a good sign.) If you're nauseous, try this: get a piece of fresh ginger, peel about a 1" square piece, squeeze it through a garlic press into a mug, pour simmering water over it & let it steep for 5 mins. This is a potent anti-nauseal. It's really important to both your detox & your health that you eat & hydrate properly (that means at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day.)

I was a little concerned that you mentioned a migraine medicine. Does it contain a barbituate? If so, usually this is not something you want to go c/t off on your own because of the risk of seizures. (This might explain the tremors/shaking.) Could you tell us what day you're on? (It'll help. Thanks!)

Please, stay close to the forum while you're going through all this & post for support/advice. You're NOT alone. There are many wonderful folks here who'll help you through this. (I wouldn't have made it to where I currently am without them.) Most importantly, You're DOING IT, my friend! Hold Fast. We're here.

I also wanted to add that you MUST cut your sources. Whether you get the meds from a doctor, dealer, or friend, if you don't cut them off you will relapse. There will always be a weak moment where we will go right back to them if we have access.

HI and welcome! There are a few things that can help some with withdrawl symptoms, but unfortunately you just have to go through it. The length and severity of your symptoms really depend on how much you've been using and for how long. General health and age can also play a role in this. Here are a few tips that helped me through my detox. I'm sure others will be along with more. 1) The link for the Thomas Recipe is located at the bottom of this page. It is full of great supplements that help with detox. If you don't want to do all of this, at least try a good multivitamin. We need the extra vitamins and nutrients during detox. 2) Stay hydrated!! This is one of the more difficult things to do. It's hard when we are nauseated/vomiting and have diarrhea. It is so important to stay hydrated. Water, juice, and gatorade. Try to stay away from caffeine. If you have diarrhea, try Immodium. It really helps. 3) Move, move, move!! You may feel like you are dying, but you aren't. Moving around in key. Even if it's a 15 minute walk, it's better than nothing. You will recover quicker and have an easier detox the more active you are.
These are just a few of the basic things that might help you along your way. There is no magic cure. We all have to just get through it. This site can be a wonderful tool in your recovery as well. Let us know what's going on with you and we can offer you our experience along with support and encouragement. You can do this!! We want to see you succeed! Good luck to you and take care of yourself!
