I DID IT! I REALLY REALLY DID IT!

I went from taking 20-25 tramadol a day to only 6-8! I never thought I could do this, you have no idea..I didnt even plan it. I've tried to quit or taper for so long and it never worked. A couple months ago I ran out and didnt get any for 8 days! I would usually order from an online pharmacy or go to the ER but I had a few darvocets which helped me through my withdrawals and when I finally got my rx again instead of going straight back to the same amount I thought "I;ve already been through the worst part" It took 2 freaking months for my body to get use to only that many a day and it feels great. I've noticed that 2 work just as well as,say, 6 which was what I was taking at a time before. I know your all thinking "big deal shes still taking them" Well this is a huge improvement for me. Sometimes I don't even take all the ones I've allotted for myself for the day. I will never be able to be completely painpill free but this is working for me now!

it isnt a opiate but acts just the same as one, i took if for four years on a daily basis and the dr's just dont know the addictive qualities of it or they just ignore it. it is just as addictive as other opiates but works a little different, i would say that it is a bear of a habit to kick and the w/ds are just as bad if not worse than other opiates becauuse it is also or has anti depressant qualities also so you feel really depressed for a long time when you quit taking them. i quit cold turkey one day and had a heck of time getting back to normal. two in a half weeks with no sleep and had no energy and my legs felt like they were five hundred pounds. i hope anyone who takes this will stop and life does get better without them and i now would just rather live with pain off and on every so often.my docter would shell out hundreds for me and then when i was out he would just call in more and i didnt even have to make a visit.i wish they would listen more to us about the addiction they do cause but the got there heads up there you know what.hope you feel better though claudia and all goes well with the taper or just keeping to a small amount. i am now 33 years old and love life much better off of them.if you cannot stop taking them than just keep up the good work and stay on a low dose.

Hi know that you asked Claudia about the Tramadol, but I have taken Tramadol in the past and YES you can get a euphoric feeling. In fact, I felt more euphoric when I was on Tramadol before than Lortab.  My doctor had prescribed me 50 mgs. (2 tablets) but 2 did nothing for me and I had asked if I could take 3 and she said yes.  When I took 3, WOW!  I felt so euphoric it was amazing.  Also, Tramadol has a sedative effect as well and that's one of the reasons it's so addictive.  I hope you don't mind me answering that for you!  Have a great day!

i have a question tho.....

if tram isnt an opiate...then do u still get that euphoria feeling from them?  how do they become addictive.  please explain that to me....i really am asking!!!

Well..Whenever I couldnt get any I actually had thoughts of throwing myself down the stairs, or any other way to injure myself so I could go to the ER..Or actually being "envious" of someone who was having surgery soon knowing that they would get plenty of painkillers..Its pathetic..and I'm admitting that and never admitted that to anyone before....So I'm definitely an addict.

Wow that is awesome. Congradulations...2 months and you are finally where you want to be.  A counselor of mine once told me that recovery was different for everyone and you have to find out what it looks like to you.  It seems like you have found that so good for you.

I dont think that quitting drugs if they are cauing u problems always means that u have to say "i am an addict"  for most it is true but not for all....it helps many to come to grips with it and know they have a problem cos if u dont admit it u can not work on it in a diligent manner...i dont think anyone wanted u to say "I am an addict"  just to be honest about the work u may need to do and it sure seems like u r getting it done!

Congrats and keep on keeping on

WOW!  That's a truely awesome accomplishment.....Just so you know, I also abused trams for chronic pain (got arthritis in my knees and hands at the age of 25 from lyme disease)...at my worst, I was taking about 12 a day (that was a year ago), quit and unquit a few times, then was stuck at a 6 pill a day habit.  Took two months to taper down but I took only 3/4 of 1 pill today!.  Your totally headed in the right direction....Once you get down lower, you'll wonder how you ever took more.

Just so you know, the lower the dose I get on, the more I realize plain old advil is just as effective.

Good luck and PM me with you progress!  I'd love to cheer you on!

Yeah I never said I wasnt an addict! Because I am physically addicted to tramadol and the physical withdrawals kept me from stopping that..and I am going to get down to 2-3! Thank you for your kind words everyone!

congrats! that is a huge accomplishment! :) I love the name too, of course I read all the books! That is very hard to do, once you've abused pills, and then to be able to take them in a sensible way after that. Keep up the good work! :)

how sweet..the name!   how sad as never being pain pill free and an addict is a downward spiral to nowhere...taking 20-28 pills a day of anything is an addiction and perhaps u r fooling urself.....leave it to me to be blunt but realistic! no negativity intended as ur acheivement is admirable

tramadol has a practical nil with pain relieving qualities for intense pain...it is used at this dose as an AD...be safe

Congratulations on cutting back as you did, many find that difficult to do.. Your liver will be pleased your not pumping that amount of Tylenol through it on a daily bases... If you can live with 3 a day why not make that your next goal? Always a good idea to take the least of any medication you can get away with... Be kind to yourself... lesa

I can get down to maybe 2-3 a day which I think is a number that I can survive on and a perfectly acceptable normal amount that people take..I have chronic pain so I will never be able to live without the help of drugs..unless I want to live in pain every day of my life..and I don't so I'm not going to!

Your the only person thats caught onto my name lol..She was my favorite character as a kid..I loved those books

that is a big accomplishment!!!!  you should be proud.  but, i have to ask why you can never be pain pill free?  you CAN continue to taper and get this done once and for all....it may take some time but you really can do it.

p.s.  i love your name...my daughter had all those books lol
