I NEED SOME SUPPORT

I NEED SOME SUPPORT

Well this is my story and any advice would be greatly appreciated. About two years ago I was prescribed vics for a back injury. It started out with taking a few a day and then so on. One month ago my husband of 15 years and I decided to end our marriage. I have 2 boys 13 and 3. I was currently taking 8 - 10 norco a day and then I went completely down hill. I started taking 10 then 15 and then ended up taking between 20 - 25 a day of Norco. With all the stress I was just eating these pills constantly. I guess I was just trying not to think about what was happening to me. Well this past Monday I called the pharmacy to try and refill my prescription which is 150 norco every 17 days. Well the pharmacist called my doctor to see if it was ok and then my doctor wanted me to come in with my meds and she would write me a new presc. I told her the reason why I needed to fill was because I was going away which I lied but you know us addicts will do or say whatever to get pills. When I got to her office I had no meds left to show her. I just filled my last presc. 9 days prior. She was not to happy so she decided to end it right there. I was crying my eyes out to her because I could not deal with going thru withdrawals with everything going on in my life right now. So she said you have to options one is I go thru the withdrawals or she gives me suboxone. I begged and pleaded with her that I did not want suboxone because I have read so many bad things about it but at that point what were my options. She clearly said she would not write me another presc. So I took the sub and I have been taking it since Monday. My question is how do I stop taking the sub. I have 25 pills left and my plan is to end this weekend. What can I expect am I going to go thru withdrawals and I am scared because I have read that you cant just stop this med.
Do I taper?

Hi and Welcome,

Do you really think your doctor never heard the "I'm going away for the weekend" story? We are not as sly as we think. Aside from that, it is now over and you have to make a decision.

Tapering with 25 is going to take you down like a rocket. If anything, spread them out as long as you can..meaning, only eat than one at a time so as not to spike your dose.

Hun, to be honest, I suggest you get it over with. It stinks, I know, but it will be faster to just go through the withdrawal and get to the other side.

Please look up to the top right hand corner at the health pages. They are full of information on supplements that can help you. Exercise, push fluids and take hot baths.

It will be over before you know it---the physical anyway and then please do your self a favor and seek aftercare.

Keep posting--keep talking...Best of luck!

I am so sorry, I misread your post. Probably reading two at once. So you have 25 subs left? Go it.

It takes five days for the Sub to fully get into your system and ward off withdrawal. After that you can begin a taper. I did a 16 day taper and had no problems with it. Please, please do this under the doctor's care.

How did u taper and what do you mean under a doctors care. I do not want to go back to this doc ever again. How long should I stay on the sub for. Can i stop it in 3 or 4 days? Once i know the withdrawals from the vics will be over. I am taking 8-2mg twice a day right now. How would I taper?

Sorry this happened to you but it is for the best. The deciding factor being are you ready to give up this madness and get your life back? I know that you can safely do a short sub taper, just for the withdrawal and you will not wd from the Sub. You will still have the mental part to deal with and you will have to really want this...not just bc your pills ran out.

Your doctor should have given you instructions on how to use the Sub she gave you.

The sooner that you end this the easier it will be. If you need support, this is a good place to find it. Keep posting.

Again hun, you need to go ask your doctor about a safe taper plan designed for you. Suboxone is not just a pill, it is a program. There are no doctors in this community and it is not safe for us to give out dosing instructions on prescribed medications. Please see your doctor.

Yes there is withdrawal but it depends on the person and the length of use.

The withdrawal isn't as bad on the subs as on other things.  If ur taking 2 a day now try and only take one tomorrow and do that for a few days and after that only do half a one and so on.  It won't be to bad.  If you really want to do it, it can be done

sub short term can be used to avoid wd from ur doc...but if used long enuf has wds of its own..this is a chance u take...200-250 mg of hydro is significant..and it will be atleast a week before ur wds/physically are over from the hydro..and then u still wont feel 100 percent..but we r all different so hard to say..as mentioned ur dr may be the best judge of this and ur plan needs to be discussed with him...it takes a few days to get ur receptors covered in sub and and it will take a few days after u stop the sub to feel truly subfree as the half life is a long one..if u stay on it for 10 days..the effect of the sub can last up to 13 which may cover the wd from hydro and avoid sub wd as well...but the mental part will still be there..and this is the hard part...avoiding wd is not the only goal in this clean thing altho it seems most important to u right now...and is why some stay on sub for a while to avoid relapse...but long term means sub wds as a rule but a slow taper can make this minimal/or as the sub company publicizes...many would argue this that have experienced sub wd...thing is u gotta be mentally ready...having ur dr cut u off is really not the same as being sick and tired of ur doc...u r being forced in a way to quit...and this is not always the best scenario cos ur heart may not be into getting clean at this point..or it may be...but u gotta want this and be willing to do the work....physical wd is the most imminent obstacle for u//or is how u may feel right now..but it is not gonna be the major obstacle in the long run..ur mind will be the stumbling block later on..so make a plan including aftercare..and keep posting cos there is alot of support here
