I WANT TO GET OFF OF SUBOXONE!!!!!!

I WANT TO GET OFF OF SUBOXONE!!!!!!

I have been taking Suboxone for 5 years or so WITHOUT a dr.s care. I work for the Department of Health and Human Services and I don't take time off for dr. appts plus I am afraid to go. I had a severe addiction to oxys and then discovered Heroin. I definately believe the Subs have saved my life but I still feel like im not getting anywhere because I am buying them off the streets. I have severe depression and sometimes think that not getting a doc is just another form of self destruction. Can I ever get off of that crap? The withdrawls when I don't have it are almost as bad as the opiates and Herion! I am trapped! Help!

How much have you been taking?  My son was on sub, 2X8mg per day, from September 2007 to June 2008, when he started cutting down, first to one per day, then to 3X6mg, and got down to 2X2 in August, then jumped off, and the withdrawals were so bad that he went back on methadone and OD'd.  In retrospect, it looks like a longer taper at a lower dose would have been safer.  He survived that OD, but not a subsequent one.

There don't seem to be very many doctors that can prescribe suboxone.  I think, on general principles, that you would be better off with a doc.

A doc may help, but i can dig not wanting to take time off work. The last thing a hard addict needs is to lose the job, then all hell will break loose. I am tapering in methadone and am down to 12ml per day.My doc just got his ticket to Rx sub and i said no. Meth or sub are BOTH ******* to get off.Good luck to you.                                     Karl

I have never tried suboxone. I am going to a methadone clinic and it has helped me alot. From what I hear, meth and sub are difficult to quit. It seems the best way for most people is a slow taper. Although there are some that just quit cold turkey.
I personally, do not have what it takes to suffer severe withdrawal if there is another way, so I plan to do a VERY slow taper.
I would suggest going to a Dr. and have him/her taper you off the subs. I understand not wanting to miss work, but it is important for your health and mental well being to do this under a Doctors care. I wish you the best of luck, no matter what you decide:)
