I am hear yet again

I have been addicted to tramadol for 14 years now. I am trying this yet again.  Today is day 1 CT. Unfortunately I know what to expect so I am scared to death. I have 4 children and 2 jobs and no time to be sick.

no I called for a refill and he gave them to me, no questions asked. I didn't want to because of the embarrassment of explaining why I ran out again, but I did.

I am confused here - you said you had no pills and no way to get them but now you're tapering? did you see the dr?

If you've tapered successfully in the past it'll probably work for you again.

You can do it.  Just gotta tough it out.

Thank you. In the 14 years there was one time I tapered successfully with no discomfort and it was when I was pregnant. The only thing I felt was tired. There are other times when I have tapered and felt like crap from day 1. No matter what, it's not a picnic but needs to be done.

Going down to three pills a day for a couple of weeks and then two and then one for the same amount of time would seem to me to be a good tapering schedule, but I think some of the above people know better than I do regarding tramadol.

I only tried to taper once(from vicodin) and it wasn't for me but I've seen plenty of people on here who say that it worked really well for them.  One mistake I've seen a couple of people make is tapering really quickly, lowering the dosage every day or even every couple of days is really close to just going ct.  You're gonna put yourself into full blown wd's anyhow if you go that fast.

Good luck

day 2 and I have only taken 1 so far. I took 2 yesterday and in the middle of the night I had to take 1. So I am taking 3 instead of the usual 4. Maybe I will stay with 3 for a few days and then go down to 2. Anyone have any suggestions as to how many days I should do this for?

well i have decided to taper. I was only taking 4 pills at the end so it shouldn't take long. This afternoon I felt so bad and my 4 children were getting yelled at for no reason because my temper is so short. I took another one at 6pm. So that was one at 8am and 1 at 6pm and a Lorazepam in between. I just took melatonin and I am going to try to get a couple of hours of sleep without the bath. Thanks for your support all. Avis I do remember when you first came here. We were both new here and I am glad that you have made it this far. I hope I can be as strong as you have been.

Girl, you can totally do this!  I am your same age and had been abusing on and off for 14 years until March.  Then I had HAD ENOUGH!  I felt like I needed it to live too.  I didn't even know what to do without them????  But I figured it out, and I'm doing it.....one day at a time!

Now....back to business.  You know what is going to happen the next few days.  But let me remind you of the important stuff.  Take hot baths.  Advil.  Heating pad.  Hylands.  Mag/cal/zinc supplement (SO helpful!).  AND......drink apple juice and gatorade.  That was great for me.  Apple juice is loaded in potassium.  You don't want to dehydrate either.  And imodium.  Gotta have that!  I took a little nyquil at night for a few days.  It did help me to sleep for a couple of hours a night!

I'll help you any way I can, ok?  Keep going.  And remember.....it doesn't last forever!!! : )

I stuck to 4 pills a day this time so that I wasn't trying to fill a script to early but I don't have pain anymore. I don't take them for a feeling I get cuz there isn't any. I take them because my body feels it needs it to live. I have been on and off for 14 years and know the thomas recipe like the back of my hand. I took my last 50mg pill this morning at 8:00 am.

Hi!  I did cold turkey from about 15 pills a day, so I know about how you're dreading this!  It is horrible, but you can totally come out on the other side!  You should taper, but if there is no way....well, then there's no way!!!  You need to read the Thomas Recipe in the health pages.  Use epsom salts in hot baths and a heating pad.  Hylands restful legs and leg cramps are both great for cramps and RLS.  Is there any way you can talk with a doctor?  When was your last pill?  How many a day were you taking?  I need a little more info!!!!  Sorry for all the questions, but I really want to help you!

Do not give up hope!  This is doable! : )

unfortunately there is no way to taper for me. I am out of pills and have no way of getting any. I have tapered before (about 4 times) and went cold turkey before (about 7 times) and I have to say CT was the way to go in the past. This drug is an awful drug and should be controlled.

Tramadol needs to be tapered down.  There are risks of seizures.  Someone with more experience will be on and will have more advice for you....Hang in there.         sara
