I can't believe I did it

I visited my doctor today.  I've been dreading this day for weeks, knowing I would either have to ask for more meds or confess that I've been abusing them.  I decided yesterday that I would confess, regardless of how I knew I would feel.  So I did, I just kind of blurted it out and said I need something different or way less of it because I'm hooked on it and I've been taking more and more, etc.  So my Dr. was really surprised and I'm not sure if he took me seriously, which is okay.  I love my Dr., and he loves me, and I was so nervous about telling him because I don't want him to think I'm a bad patient.

But I still cried on the way home because I was so mad at myself for telling him when I knew he would have given me another prescription if I had asked for it.  He ended up giving me like 24 Vicodin to last me 3 months, hahah.

Stacy: Yeah, I've had a broken leg for 2 years and I'm in constant pain.  I have a high tolerance for pain so it's not like I need medication to get me through the day, but there are some nights when I have to crawl around my house on my hands and knees because I can't put any weight on my leg.  I also have surgery every once in a while, so I need meds for that too.

Babanker: I'm allergic to Celebrex!  It makes my stomach bleed.  :p  I live alone, so I don't have anyone to hold them for me, but sometimes my pain gets really bad so it will be enough for me knowing that I have to save them for those times.  I know what you mean, though.  Actually, my first reaction was to just enjoy them all at once and suffer later but I really do want to get off these meds, so I won't.

Hello, so do you have someone to hold those pills for you, or do you think you will be able to hold them on your own?  Not to sound like a cynic, but if I had confest to my Dr. my addiction and he gave me 24 vics, I would look at it as though he was enabling me, and I would probably eat all of them in one day.  Have you tried any non-narcs for pain, I use Celebrex, expensive, but great, hope this helps.  Take care, BA

I see, but you never said, were you taking them in the first place for some kind of pain?

Sorry I must not have explained that well.

IBKleen and Stacy, I did not tell him I was abusing the meds, I told him that I had become physically hooked on them and had started taking them when I really didn't need to and didn't want to be taking them regularly.  I still need them for the really bad days.  My doctor is not a bad doctor.  He actually has a policy that you can't call in for a prescription refill, he wants to see the patient before he gives them meds.

DOA, the hahah was more of a cynical hahah.  It is VERY little, but that is what I wanted.  Not enough to abuse but enough to get me through the bad days.

Well, she said she asked for something different, or way less of it; I guess he thought the latter would be appropriate for an ADDICT.  What is wrong with doctors?
