I did it! I got sober by myself!

Hey everyone, Lady Soprano here, I forgot my password and had to create a new user id.  Anyhow I posted last Thursday stating that I had gone to the doctor and explained to her I was becoming addicted to vic's and tylenol 3's and wanted to get off of them for good, so the doc wrote a script for 30 vic's and strict instructions to follow in order to wean.  I went home and immediately gave the bottle of pills to my husband and explained to him to only give them out at the scheduled times, absolutely do not give me any extra pills no matter how much I beg or cry.  After the first day I was experiencing mild stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhea, and general tiredness.  Today is Wednesday and I feel great!  I got through my detox period, no more pills for me!   I was so scared I wasn't going to be able to handle it, but I did it!  For anyone out there who is still struggling, please read my message, you can do it!  Even though Ive only been sober for a couple of days, I feel absolutely great today. I even went on a bikeride when my cravings started to become unbearable and it helped!   The doctor also said there is a non-narcotic painkiller out there called UltraCid, anyone here heard of it?  I havent got my script filled yet until I know more about it.   See ya all later!  Lady S.

My husband has been taking 200 mg. of oxycotin for the past 6 years for cluster headaches.  He began chewing them and running out of his prescription before the time he was suppose to.  He is trying to kick right now.  He cut his dosage from 200 to 80 and is going crazy.  I think he might have cut the dosage too much.  I don't think he can keep this up and work which he insist on doing.  When you taper off of these things how should you do it.  I am going to get him the recipe tomorrow and hopefully that will help.  Please someone post with some sort of advice.  Thank you in advance

Are you needing it for detox or for some other problem? When I detoxed they gave me Zanaflex, which completely took away the muscle spasms but also really doped me up, knocked me out. Which was good as I had zero desire to take it once the WDs had passed. It did work, though. Good luck.

I have a question, does anyone know of a muscle relaxer that will do the job? I have been on Soma very addictive and gave me a seizure, Flexeril just makes me very very sleepy nothing else, skelaxin and baclofen or something like it I cannot take cause I have a Gastric ulcer and those 2 are very dangerous to the digestive system. Come on y'all I know the vast knowledge of all in this forum If I don't know the answer I know someone in here does. God bless all, Love Baddgirl

hi- you may want to try robaxin, that is what I received in detox, however, I researched the internet the other night and I am sure that I read Soma is non-addictive. Correct me if I am wrong. I am not sure of your problem, I think I may have fibromyalgia, anyway, you can try acupuncture it helps great. Try to stay away from pills because I found that the behavior is still there. Get well and god bless.

I truly think that not enough is know about Ultram yet. Just from hearing stories hear, I'd say it is very addictive for some. I get hooked on opiates just by looking at them, but had a total different reaction to Ultram. It made me shaky and I lost my appetite. I did not get a buzz at all. I had no problems when I quit taking it. But I did have a seizure on it that was attributed to the Ultram - and I wasn't abusing it. So I think obviously some people get just as addicted to this as others do to vics or heroin or whatever. It just depends on your chemisty. The moral, I suppose, is to be careful with this as with any drug. I never want to experience the WD described by Jessarpy, Ultragirl and others who've been hooked on Ultram. Just don't get lulled into thinking it's safe. Like I said, while I didn't get "hooked" on it, it obviously screwed up my brain, and seizures are in fact listed as a warning (I'd never had one before, so didn't worry about it). Take care everyone.

The buzz is nothing like a Narcotic High, it produces a feeling of Well Being, gives TONS of energy, that last forever. But DAMN, if you don't take any pills for a day or two, you WILL be in Hell. The W/D is so much worse than an opiate w/d. Be careful.

That's great. I remember when I first got addicted (very mildly) to vikes. I used them for a few months then ran out. I had one night of no sleep then felt incredibly great. My endorphins bounced back almost immediately and it was almost ecstacy for a few days being clean.

But please know that if you are pschologically addicted, your work has just begun. Also know that your grace period has already starting running out. The more you continue to use the less reilient your system will be in fending off setious long term addiction. Good luck.

PLEASE, if you have any drug history, don't switch to Ultram, Ultracet - these are wicked, evil pills - last week, I quit "cold turkey" for two days, and it was the worst time in my entire life!!!  After visiting my e.r., the doc gave me another script to ween myself and did great until today, I abused the amount and feel like ****!!  So much of getting off the pills is psychological and that's where I am today - physically, the weening was working but no buzz anymore.  Today, I just felt like a little lift, got it, and now regret taking the step backwards - at least I'm well stocked with the meds and won't be without as I taper again starting tomorrow! Tapering was the best method for me.  It works!   I need to get my head back on straight - last week, I swore never again and here I went back.  What is my deal?

May I ask what kind of buzz does anyone get from Ultram? The reason I am asking is that a detox center in my area Maryland, uses Ultram to detox narcs sounds weird to me. I hav eeven had scripts for narcs cause well meaning docs think its the drug to give narc abusers. I took it for 2 months and had not a single W/D symptom any insight out there? Love Badd

Lucy & Ricky and Tex3, thanks for your posts.  I was taking anywhere from 12-15 vic es per day and a bottle of 30 tyleonol 3's would only last me a day and a half (although I would never take them together, for fear of an OD, always separately).

My doctor put me on a strict wean regimen of taking 2 vic's every six hours for the first day, then 1 pill every 6-8 hours for the next couple of days.  I actually didn't finish the whole bottle, my husband ended up flushing the remaining few down the toilet!  So I started to wean on Friday by taking the vic's 2 every 6 hours, and by Sunday I was down to 1 pill per day and Monday I woke up and said, no more pills!  I am going to try and go the whole day without a vic, and by god I actually did it!  Here it is already Wednesday and I feel great!

I am still scared of relapsing, I know that if I had the money today I would jump right back into taking my pills to wake up, get through the day, and go to sleep pattern again, no doubt about it!   But at this point I guess you kinda have to come to the end of your rope or "hit rock bottom" like I did to actually realize you need to stop this insane way of living and get on with life!   I know that I need to be strong in the coming months, but for now I am content and happy with myself for overcoming a huge obstacle.   Going to take a bike ride tonite, it really helps with my cravings.   See you all later....Lady S.

Congratulations! This is a beast to get past, so you should be very proud. Just a warning, though, in the weeks or months to come you might be tempted even if you think now there is no way. Or if you're not seriously tempted, you might still have cravings (I do) or think about pills a lot. It's what you do that counts, though, not the thoughts, so don't beat yourself up for cravings; almost everyone has them. Again, congratulations and I'm glad you're feeling so well!

This is Lucy and I just wanted to say how happy I am for you. (a little envious too) Could you tell me how many opiates you were doing a day and how your doc tapered you off?

Way to go for getting clean. I did the same exact thing. Went to my doctor, told her I was addicted, and she gave me a very strict taper program, gave the pills to my wife and had her distribute pills to me. HOWEVER, my drug was ULTRAM, and it is VERY ADDICTIVE, and the Withdrawl is 10 times worse than Vicoden. DO NOT USE THIS Medicine!!!!! Consider yourself warned.

The drug that your Doc reccommended is UltraCET. It is simply 37.5 Mgs of tramadol(ULTRAM) with 325-500 Mgs of Acetameniphen (Tylenol) AND it IS addictive for some people. Probably anyoone who has abused Opiates in the past would likely abuse Ultracet. Some people experience HORRIBLE withdrawls from this medication-- I did.

If you must have something for chronice pain, however, Ultram and Ultracet are very effective. In fact, 2 50Mgs pills did a better job for me than 15Mgs of morphine (MS Contin) for pain relief. My problem was that I began to abuse the drug to the point of 40-50 pills per day in order to feel "normal"

Good luck in finding some effective pain relief!
