I did it...but now what?!?!

This is the 1 week mark since I had my last Fioricet with Codeine. The withdrawals are still not the best….but I think I am slowly…very slowly going to be o.k.

I had myself a little panic attack last night. I thought back to why I started taking this medicine in the first place, which was for my menstrual migraines. It has VERY effectively taken them away, but since I got to the point of abusing them the last 4 years and have made the conscious decision to never take one again…what now?

I will inevitably get at least a few migraines EVERY month around menstruation. Sure I have plenty of Tylenol and Ibuprofen, but that seriously does nothing for those kinds of migraines. I really really don’t want to suffer, but I also don’t want to get addicted to anything else.

So, what other options are there. I have tried Treximet and Relpax…..they are non-narcotic/barbiturate/opiate, but they are MAJOR expensive…and only take the edge off.

p.s. I did a very fun thing today. I went through my house and found all other prescription meds that I don’t want/need or that I fear will be addictive. I put them in a small box and had a little fire in my back yard. Sounds kind of weird, but it was very therapeutic for me! Just watching them slowly disintegrate into ashes and blow away in the wind….kind of like they never existed…

Allk~   The dreams are very normal but disturbing,I know. When you dream about pills and don't take one, you're getting better!!

You will make it. Try to do all the things that will bring you symptomatic relief. Keep your stomach full, take hot baths. See if you can get an rx for phenergan;it helps the nausea. If not, dramamine works fairly well. Fluids and vitamins, also.

Unfortunately I have tried SEVERAL bc pills, patches, rings, shots. My body is extremely sensitive to the estrogen. My hormones have been tested to see if I am lacking or producing too much of other hormones. I would much rather  do that kind of prevention.
Today is a bad day so far. I woke up with the sweats  and aches.  I am naesous and I dreamed ALL might about pain pills. So so rough. But I will make it. Thanks for the help.

Pharma9, has a great idea. The pill does help lessen many of the pms symptoms so maybe you can talk to the doc about that. And that must have felt so liberating to burn that box! Good for you! Do you have any kind of aftercare lined up?

Because there are hormonal headaches, sometimes birth control pills help prevent migraines.
They help regulate the hormones and prevent big fluctuations in the levels.

Fiorinal isn't a good idea for addicts. The Butalbital is habit forming.

That's a true commitment when you burned those meds. Congratulations!

My wife has always had a generic for Fiorinal called Butalbital-ASA-Caffeine for migraines around. Has no opiate. She rarely takes it, but she said it works when needed. It's also pretty cheap. The Butalbital part sounds like it could possibly be addictive. I just did a check on rxlist and it's not on there.

My wife is the type of person who can nurse a glass of wine, put it in the fridge to walk the dog, and slowly finish it when she got back. Me? I'd do a bottom's-up, and kill the rest of the bottle when I got back!

Hi~ Imitrex is another triptan. It's generic now so less expensive. Triptans usually work for classic migraine.   Once you've been off the Fioricet and codeine, you may notice a huge difference in your pain and headaches.  Hope for the best!

It's really great you got off this AND burned everything else!  Powerful, huh?
