I don't know what to believe

My stepson is now living with us after graduating from rehab and then getting kicked out of a transitional home.  He was randomly drug tested and his urine dip showed trace evidence of opiates.  He is taking Depakote and Trazadone and swares he has taken nothing else.  His last drug test at rehab a few days earlier was clean.  How do opiates, even trace evidence, show up in a urine test "if" he hasn't taken any?

I need your help.

Mom of an an oxy addict here ,  I buy the 4 in 1  drug test kit from the drug store, ask your pharmasist they will direct you to the best or most accurate test.   The oxy does not stay in the system very long, so you need to test as soon as possible or when you see the  "signs" of using.    The tests are pricey if you are going to be doing this for a while, like "wanna" said they are cheaper on line,  but I think you are looking for an answer right away.

Make sure his dad is in the bathroom when you collect his urine sample,  I was amazed to find out there are little things you can put inside your jeans that holds "clean" urine, absolutely crazy, but they will hide their usage any way possible.

Most of the time I knew before I gave the test  all I had to do was say "okay dear time to go in the bathroom for the urine test"  the accuracy is that good,   she would say  let's go  and I knew it would , and it was ,clean,  however  there were/ are times she says "no need mom,  yes I did use".

Test him and you will know for sure.  Best of luck to all of you.

unless he took some i can't see why he'd test positive.  I'm sure he doesn't want to let you guys down and confess to that.  If you want to do what you can to keep him headed in the right direction, go get some of the kits.  You can even order them online too (i think they're cheaper but you have to wait for them).  Let him know you want to help him in recovery, but if he's using he's out the door.  Then, have your husband watch him pee. There's just too many ways around going into a drug test by yourself.  Then you'll know.  Opiates stay in your system for about 36-48 hours at the longest.  Let him know you'll do random tests and don't tell him when they'll be.  I know you want to trust him, but he has to earn your trust back, and he knows it.  It's for his own good anyway.
