I hate Ativan

I've been on ativan for 2 months now and I'm scared to get off it yet I want to get off it because I feel like a zombie all time now. Ive only been taking about 1/2 to a whole miligram a night.

im with worried on this one!  adivan isnt the way to go. i had a bad car wreack back in 93  and the dr. gave them to me for anxiety ans spasams didnt like them at all to much of a zombie for me, so i told him that i didnt care for them and so he started me on the trazodone for anxiety and insominia i take i50 mg twice a day and it has really done well by me it also is the bomb for the creepy crawly rls. it is also used for depression/ bipolar and forcocaine withdrawal.  i also take seraquil 200 mg twice a day. i sleep just fine and stay asleep too. talk to your dr. their is better meds out there, they can be very addicting and a b***h to withdrawal off . be careful         sherri

hey thanks christo for your response. i appreciate someones wisdom who's been through it. so did you taper by weekly? yes, i am on a pretty low does because im paranoid! ha. but yea Ive recently found more comfort in meditation for managing my anxiety! I really recommend it for someone. Its a cost effective way to manage some of your problems with anxiety and depression.

slowly taper down..it wont be that bad youre not on a very high dose at all, I was taking originally 6 mgs per night for insomnia and opiate withdrawal and then downed it to 4 mgs and three weeeks later down to 2 mgs, next week ill go down to 1mgs, and then lower and lower, it just takes time and patience, if you do it too soon you will be very uncomfortable and in major withdrawal, and benzo withdrawal is nothing to mess with for sure.

Talk to ur doctor and tell him...ativan is not a sleep medication...using benzos for sleep is ane easy was to get addicted to a very addictive drug...can he prescribe u something else...there are anti-depressents that help with sleep and anxiety like amitryptilline or tazodone....lots of herbal sleep meds as well....taper off and try something safer..u wouldnt need to taper too long after just 2 weeks   just a couple of nights and get with ur doc

thanks a lot I appreciate it. It like a cycle. I'm axious so I can't get to sleep and I'm up all night worrying that I won't get to sleep. I hate being dependant on a drug for me to sleep and quit worrying about things that don't matter. I'm really anxious about the drug in general but without it I go into panic attacks

I hear u i cant stand ativan it does make u feel like a zombie!! My b/f absolutly loves it though. I think u should maby talk to ur doc about a drug that can be used for more of a long term. In my opinion ativan shouldn't be a drug used for everyday. talk to ur doc and tell him ur concerns. Best of luck hun.

Well, maybe the first thing to do is get a new doctor. what is causing the anxiety? or you cannot sleep?

What is ativan and what is it used for? have you told your doctor? he could probably give the best advice.
