I have a question about Hydrocodone...

Can anyone tell me how long it takes to kind of "reset" yourself? The reason I ask is the 3 tablets of 5/500 a day is most of the time not enough for the pain. The only thing I can think to do is to reset. I haven't taken any since last Friday. When will the tolerance go away? Thank you in advance....

not sure if it ever does...but honey you are doing great. I don't know if I could have done what you have. I tried to go c/t but chickened out half way through the day and tapered instead. looking back I wish I would've just gotten it over with because I had 6 days out of work but I didn't and oh well.

I think singha has a point about maybe it never does. Here is my opinion: I think you can "reset" yourself to lower your tolerance and it is different for everyone.  I would say 1-2 weeks at the least and you could start again.  However, it is also a good possiblity that although your tolerance will be lower it will probably go back up very vey quickly.  More quickly than when you first started taking opiates.  I think the chemistry in our brains is forever changed and if you have used opiates for an extended period of time you will always be susceptable to developing a higher tolerace more quickly than others.
Good for you for being able to just go c/t!!!  Even if you are getting back on them for the pain it shows that you have a great deal of willpower and if you ever do stop for good then you will probably be pretty successful.

I'm sorry but I forget....do you have fibromyalgia?  Is there another alternative for the pain?  I know that I cannot take hydro's again because I have no willpower over this drug and I have chronic back pain (like many thousands in this country!) I do Yoga, hot tub and Ibuprpofen!  It is only my opinion and just applicalble to myself. You know yourself better and what you can or cannot handle. Just be careful with the hydro's....they are very dangerous! I know relapse is very high amongst addicts so I just want everyone to be aware and very honest with themselves. I also do agree that our tolerance probably builds up much quicker once we have been addicted to a drug.
Peace,
Marcie

For all of your feedback! Do you think it would be in my best interest to switch to something else? We have tried wiht some and it just didn't work. Ultram, rash! Darvocet, one continious barf. Tylenol 3, worse rash! I can't take NSAIDS, so my options are limited. I stay on the Hydro because I have noe really bad side effects and it worked for pain. I was put on Lyrica and started PT and was able to drop from 2 7.5/500 Hydros 3 times a day to 5/500 3 times a day! That was a great feat! I have just been taking Hydro so long and when I get something for pain at anytime, it has always been Hydro because of the above. I have an appt. @ pain management in a few, maybe we can figure out something else...
