I have been addressing my other addiction!!!

I know not many of you can relate to my other addiction but my eationg disorder is trying to creep in my life again!!!  I unlike alot of you am gaining weigth after meds.  But its a really fast gain, I had this on other time(Iwas gaining a pound a day)  the drs did all sorts of tests and said that my body a shut down because of too much stress.  Well, its happening again! I've beenat the health food store getting stuff for my thyroid, cortizol blocker, special oils, b-stress.  I have also been looking for the book that I know Fladdict is reading - Is it the mood cure by julia ross????  This whole thing makes me feel like one big **** up and a failure.!!!!!!  Does anyone understand - I feel like my problems are so complex.

You aren't alone with your weight issues. I've gained at least 20 lbs.ATLEAST.
Yeah it sucks. And I don't know if its from the pain pills or antidepressants
Good question. You not alone there hon. Anyone else experience weight gain?

I gained about 20 lbs during the last year. I believe it was because on the pills I didn't work out or feel like doing anything strenuous. I started taking the pills because of a severe accident and liked them enough  that when the pain was gone I just kept on taking them. I have been off them for 20 days today and lost 12 pounds. I am a tall man so my weight gain was hard to notice.

no, you are not alone with weight issues. Like others have mentioned - often you get this insane craving for sweets after stopping with the painmeds. I lost almost 20 lbs when on Ultram, but after I stopped I had to have sweets all the time, and I didn't have the strength to deny myself that in addition to denying myself the pills. So I have now regained at least half of the 20 lbs and am still gaining weight.
I hope this craving for sweets will go away eventually, or I will be enormous ;-)
take care

Hey there,

I left a post for you below, I haven't heard from in a while!

It's good that you new addication is at least what the body needs...FOOD!

I'm the same, like Tim. When I started quitting meds, I lost 20lbs!!!! - But I now I'm underweight, but my appetite is coming back to me, so I have gained 10 lbs back, but when I was on the drugs, I never lost weight, until I started to drop them.

At least your new addiction, is a lot more healthier than "Drugs"!!!!

Keep up the Good Job!!!  -  Don't be hard on yourself, I think anyone in here would trade food for drugs, on the flip of a dime!

Love Todd

Yes, I too stopped working out.  4 years ago I was jogging at least 15 mles a week mostly more, and my body seemed flawless.  When I had the shoulder operation and started taking the hydros, my body seemed flawless and WHY run?  No need!  The hydros made me flawless.  I think most people deep down realize the importance of exorcize.  Please take, a suggestion, a walk as briskly as comfortable for you, and start a life the works.  When I first started jogging again a couple of weeks ago, my wife walks at the same pace that I jog.... I't not that fast a walk either, just above normal.  So there are ways to jog that is very very slow.  My wife at first was running on the balls of her feet then, I suggested running "heal to toe" and she thought that easier but still preferred the walking. It's pretty easy... give it a try?  For me it was the only way that I could keep the weight off.

I'm with everyone on the weight issues.  It's interesting though -- it seems that some people gain weight on the meds and then lose weight after stopping them....and the others are the other way around (lose weight while on hydros and gain it after stopping them).

As for me, I'm not sure what the heck my body is doing.  It's been so long since I've been on hydros (and having a complete hysterectomy about 2 months ago has probably thrown in another factor with weight loss/gain).  I don't think I've actually gained weight since being on the hydros, but like others, I've totally stopped exercising (unless running after kids is considered exercise).....and I can certainly see the results of no real exercise on my body.  It's like Tim or someone was saying -- the hydros make you feel better, so why not just pop a hydro and not worry about exercise, right?  Although I'm not overweight, I'm in desperate need of some REAL exercise.  I'm very curious about what my body will do weight-wise if I can ever manage to completely stop the hydros for good.  Will I lose weight?  Gain weight?  I guess I'll never know until I try it.  And, either way, it's GOT to be better for your body to at least be off of the hydros, weight gain or not.  Maybe once I'm off the hydros, I'll actually have some of my natural energy back and some motivation to get in shape once again....?
Anyway, just wanted to add my two cents worth here.  I know the weight thing is a big issue for many, whether losing or gaining during abuse period or during quitting.

But hey, here's my real question.  I'm up to taking 4 hydros a day now.  Most I've ever taken.  I'm having REAL problems with....uh....constipation.  I know, I know, not the most pleasant of subjects, but I feel I need some feedback from everyone.  What has everyone else done about this problem??  I mean, if I'm experiencing this severe of a problem while taking 4 a day, what in the world did you guys experience when taking two or three times that amount in one day?  How did you handle the constipation problem (or was it even a problem for you???)  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!  K.
