by doodlebug1205, Jan 09, 2009 11:49PM
Hi everyone Im new to this forum my name is amy.  MY husband and I started taking oxys 2 yrs ago and I am taking anywhere from 100mg- 160mg per day and my husband takes anywhere from 280mg-400mg per day!  We desparatly want off these things.  WE run out all the time and have to go through withdrawal for a 2-3 days and are basically sucidal but then we get our drugs back and our happy and everything goes back to normal again for about 5-6 days.  I cant take living this rollercoaster anymore.  My frined told us about methodone. I have heard that this drug can be very hard to get off of.  I was wondering though if we only took it for like 3 weeks to get through the withdrawal would that work?

this form is great, stay with us. I dont know about methodone. but if u go 2 to 3 days without, you could do the rest. no one wants to live their lives like this. i am starting day 3 from 12+ vics a day. first 3 to 4 days are the worst. good luck, everyone is great here keep posting.

Welcome! Yes you could do that, but sorry to say there is no way to avoid all withdraws. There will be discomfort no matter if you go cold turkey, or taper or use methadone. I have heard fromthis forum that methadone is a very hard withdraw...I don't have personal experience with meth...but to answer your question yes it would work, but there would still be some withdraw to deal with. Good luck!

The only safe way is to get into a detox center. Some use methodone for a 5 day detox starting at 25 mg the first day and lowering it by 5 mg each day for the 5 days for the worst of addictions and it works great. Its not easy for anybody to detox on there own . Good luck and GOD bless you. May the lord JESUS be with you.

thank u for your responses I dont have health insurance right now so I cant get into a detox center.  My friend sells methadone at $5 per pill so I was thinking of getting a bunhc of those and me and my husband could use them for 2 weeks and ween off them slowly.  I know there will be some withdrawal but I cant take the cold turkey it is just too hard and I am too weak to handle it.

I would suggest you and your hubby get your last dose of pills and then start tapering down ....i mean really tapering down. there are enough stories in this forum to scare the **** outta your from keep taking these pills. Meth or suboxone will save your life if you cant stop taking the pills, but its a trade off....so make a decision and stick to it....read some of our stories and do something before its too late....
good luck

You would be better off going ct off the oxys than the methadone....you will have withdrawals either way and methadone is no fun to come off of.  Please read what others have posted on this forum.........stay on the forum and we will help you and your husband......sara

Hi....your oxy intake can be tapered if your willing to go with the plan.  Tapering is not as rough as ct and you can still function but you have to commit or you'll end up relapsing.  As far as meth, I never tried but after reading other's meth wd horrors, I would stay far away from that.  Meth apparently has a long half life meaning the med stays in your system for a long time; the wds are much worse and longer.  I'm sure others with meth experience will respond.

If you need help with a taper plan, just post...many of us have done that and are still doing good.

Take care

Hello my friend.  Everyone tells you to taper with the Oxy., but from one ex Oxy user, I was once like you and everytime you get low, you think of tapering and getting off then when the script is new, wham!! That thought just leaves your head completely till your pills run out again.  I feel your pain and it is a vicious cycle and the answer for me did lie in a Methadone taper, but not for two weeks.  I went to Lakeside in Memphis, TN. and I  was tapered off in just 4 days and did not feel a withdrawl one.  So, speaking from experience, if you have an Oxycontin problem tapering with them is not an option, you know what I mean, Methadone taper worked great for me.  I did relapse and am on an Suboxone taper now.  I pray this works as well as Methadone taper did...Much love and respect for ya

I have been on pain meds for the past 6 years (Oxy for past 3 yrs).  I was taking around 200 mg/day.  I am on day 4 of going cold turkey.  I have tried the taper method and it never worked for me.  I NEVER let myself run out for the entire 6 years because I was afraid of getting sick.  It was and is the hardest thing that I have done, but I needed my life back for me and my family.  It is starting to get a little better.  I felt like I wasn't going to make it many times during the first 3 days.  Lots of hot showers and vitamins, but I don't think any of that helped.  You can do it.  I know exactly what you are feeling.  They take over your life.  If you often have to go 3 days at a time without the oxy's then it is only just a couple more days of the physical pain.  I think the anxiety and panic attacks have been the worst part, but you just have to decide you want control of your life back.  I know it seems impossible, but you can do it.  GOOD LUCK

IF YOU CAN GET YOURSELF AND YOUR HUSBAND IN TO DETOX.  IF YOU CANT DO THAT THEN TRY TO TAPER, BUT IF YOU CANT DO THAT, THEN SEEK MEDICAL ADVISE. BUT REMEMBER YOU REALLY HAVE TO WANT TO DO THIS , IN ORDER FOR ANY WAY YOU CHOOSE TO DO IT. GOD BLESS
