I hope you come back, there is a lot of great support here.
Methamphetamine increases the release of high levels of dopamine. This chemical neurotransmitter in the brain involves motivation, the experience of pleasure and motor function. Regular use of meth depletes the brain's supply of reserve dopamine. Without dopamine, a person loses interest in everything other than satisfying the addiction.
Because of this even though there isn't any physical WD , the mental WD can be really tough, IMO simalar to opiate mental WD, as in no motivation for life, depression , etc.
Overdose from meth is rare however it can happen. Most meth users just crash when their bodies finally give up from lack of sleep.
Meth will kill you from long term use. It weakens the heart, liver, kidneys and brain from over working them. I was meth addict for 20 years and luckily I survived.
I've been clean for over 10 years now without any major repercussions.
Most meth addicts need to hit rock bottom before they decide to come clean.... Getting clean from meth is much easier to detox from than say opiates. Your body and mind require a week or two of sleep and food and generally your good to go.
Sorry I cant be more help hun..... My advice would ben to stop bringing him home every time he uses, or he has no reason to quit.
God Bless
Hi. There are 2 drugs called meth, both short forms. The first is methamphetamine, which is speed, which is a stimulant or upper .The second is methadone, which is an opiate, or a down.
If your son is going several days with no sleep and not eating,he is into the speed. If he is taking methadone,he could, drop of to sleep at a moments notice, only to shake his head and wake up again.
Also, ones pupils will get large on the speed, and smaller on the opiates.Check out these symtoms and get back to this forum,we will try to help you when you KNOW what he is taking, and possibly if he is injecting the speed.I have been hooked on both over the years,so may be of some help. karl
My 19 yr old nephew is a heroin addict. We had him detox for a week, at the time we only thought he was on oxy pills turned out he wasnt. anyways we tried to get him clean but he just went out and got more. There is nothing we can do until he is ready. Sad fact but unless your son is ready, there is nothing anyone can do. There are meetings that you could attend that would help you. I wish you and your family the best with this!
