What is their explanation for not wanting to do knee replacements for 5 years?
I went through hip replacement/revision 3 years ago at 32 years old and it took me 6 months and numerous Dr's before I found one that would do the surgeries.
I would suggest finding a new Dr.
Thanks for answering....
They won't do knee replacement for about 5 years.....
I honestly I don't think I can do this for 5 years. I just cant.. I was in pain while on the meds. Now I can't even bend my legs while I'm laying down.
Have you ever tried the withdrawal ease they talk about online?
Your doctor is a sadist! There are options for you and it ***** he/she is not helping. I am so sorry. Here is what I have written and if it helps any..I hope it does. Please hang in there.
I kept telling myself...YOU HAVE the FLU! It will be over and I will feel so much better. My brain seemed to get that and settled down a little. It is hard, but doable! The Thomas Recipe (bottom of the page under Health Pages will help. I did not to the tranquilizers and had to cut back on the Ltryosine, but the rest really helped. Imodium, Imodium, Imodium (liquid or pills if the liquid can't be found or you can't swallow it) will help. I took double the dosage for a few days (personal choice) and it helped so much..even with the withdrawals in general and the opiate trots which sucked.
Hydrate and eat! Even if it is just a little every hour or so. You have to eat something to keep your energy up as much as possible.
If you have Restless legs..it is hit or miss what works. Walking seemed to help me some. Hot bath with epsom salts..a little. I finally had to get my doctor to refill my restless legs meds (non addictive) to get some sleep. If nothing works, your doctor might help.
One hour at a time is all anyone can ask. After 2 weeks it gets a little better and I started to say, One day at a time! Your brain will do all sorts of things to get you to take a pill. I found if I was hungry..the cravings got worse. I would try to eat a banana, a few grapes or a few crackers to get that under control.
Good for you. I hope all goes well. You have made a good start coming here....this site has helped me so much!!! Keep posting!!!!!
I don't know any secrets to make this more tolerable. Read more posts on the subject to get some ideas. My fear for you is that it doesn't sound like you should be quitting all of a sudden when you seem to be in serious pain (2 broken legs!!??) something seems wrong here. Why have you decided to do this? If this is your decision that's OK too, not here to judge by any means .
Thankerancher..
Hi there,
I am sorry you are suffering so much...I hear you. I really think you need to speak with another doctor. You were on a high dosage and so the w/d will be real uncomfortable and your rebound pain tough. You realize you have an issue with the pills, but you need to have an alternative pain management plan in place. You have suffered enough. A doctor can prescribe non-narcotic medication that will help with the w/d and the pain.
For now, try a hot bath with epsom salts. Take deep breaths. They are the best remedy I know for anxiety. Have you looked up the Thomas Recipe in the health pages? It has a number of natural and OTC medications that help with detox.
HYDRATE. Push as much fluid as you can, dehydration makes detox so much harder. Heat is what helped me the most. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and I lived in the bath/sauna and used a heating pad for my legs. Do what you can to distract your mind...Listen to music, watch a good movie, read posts on this site. Pray.
You are not alone. You need and deserve support. There is no shame in needing help-it is what makes us human. There is hope and light at the end of the tunnel...Hold on to whatever you can and please keep posting...
Sending support...

I would definately suggest something for your nerves. Muscle relaxers help me too.
You don't I guess. Because he won't help me in that situation at.....
He told me you can't die from detoxing. Which I guess is true, but I can't function at all. And the anxiety is getting so bad I can't stand it and to be in a wheel chair there is pretty much no exercising to help burn off the anxiety..... I feel like I am coming out of mmm my skin
Any suggestion,
I understand the cold turkey. I did it 2 weeks ago. The 1st 5 days I was sure I was going to die. It was bad! But here I am. I still have the sneezes lol & lots of back pain, but drug free:)
Vickie. How do you taper when your doctor doesn't agree?
Cold turkey......... And I feel like I'm goin to die
I am under a doctors help. But he told me nobody died from pain......
Do you know any secrets to make this more tolerable. This sounds stupid but it even hurts to touch my own skin.
Thank you for responding. And by the way I have two broken legs that is why I'm in a wheel chair.......I feel like I'm caged..... Is it against the rules to take muscle relaxers? I have to do something. Soon, because currently I am giving up......
Hi! You're taking an awful lot of pain med per day so you're going to feel pretty bad. I think you need some medical supervision with this and I also think you should taper right now instead of stopping abruptly. What do you think?
Hang in there u can do this it ***** but it can b done. I know what u going through I had a bad fall and was lucky to come through it was in a wheel chair for a year had a bunch of surgerys now I am disabled can walk some. I agree with catupatree. Your not alone!!! We get addiction, that's why we are here to help eachother. But you are in real pain. Are you going to have knees surgery?
Bone on bone is painful. But acupuncture can help with pain. Herbs and vitamins help with detoxing and WD.
Are you planning on getting off the meds?
Hey man don't think you're alone cuz you're not. It just feels that way for now. With what you described its no surprise you take a lot of pain killers, youre in PAIN! Are you under a Drs care? I hope so. You need medical care. Are there any plans for surgery ie knee replacement?
