the fatigue you are feeling will probably last around 6 mos. or so - depending on how long you were taking the drug, and how much it changed your sense of motivation and or ability to do daily things..ie. laundry, mowing the lawn, laundry.lol. You have to - NEED TO - find something to keep you busy and to occupy your time with. The fact that you work means you have half of your day where you are doing something that is, for the most part, taking your mind off of your psychological "need" for the drug - any kind for that matter. But you need to actually, physically, try to occupy your time when you are not working with something that will keep your hands busy (that fills the need of your hands as they would otherwise be used for chopping, cutting, etc, right ? ) and then, if at all possible, having that same thing be able to keep your mind and soul busy so as not to think about the need/desire to do said drugs.

Personally, i have had substance abuse issues for over 7 years now. I have had all the reason in the world to be on pain meds (t3,percocet,oxycodone,hydrocodone,morphine,hydromorphine... all in order of progression) and also Amphetimines (Dexedrine, adderall.. for attention issues). Now those drugs by themselves are a *****, but together they create a whole new level of dependence. let me tell you, it has been one up hill battle after another, when regarding these drugs and my physical need for them and or desire to NOT be on them.

Unfortunately, i do not have an answer to what will work for you - what has worked for me, however, is music. I have always had hardships in life, always been aware of the world around me, how i feel inside, how other people see things, and how I see things oh so much differently, and it really is a blessing when you are able to write it down, whether on paper in a painting, or lyrics in a song/poem (poems are not gay, so don't even go there lol). Just tap in to that person inside of you who feels the way you feel, figure out why, and what you can do to make it better every day. I write music, it's inspiring/depressing/thought provoking, and people love it, and it helps me to avoid the catastrophes of the substance abuse lifestyle. It gives you an outlet where there is none when it comes to drugs, in any shape of form. the inspiration found when ingested drugs, alcohol, you name it i've done it, is just a mask, something to fill the void of what is really lacking in your life.

I hope this helps. you can write me anytime and ask questions if you want. I'd like to have a contact here who knows something about what im goin through. take care, and stay positive!!

Thank you all, all i'm doing is thinking about it, and its just real hard, does anyone also happen to know how long this sort of fatigue lasts. It seems that even normal things at work exhaust me... is there anything that will help? Non pill wise! i'm damn well sick of meds. I see my Doc on Wed, so IF there's something that will help with fatigue let me know, otherwise im just sucking it up just understanding theres nothing i can do except suck it up heh... the ****** feeling is on and off, i find its off more than on lately, how long until this feeling disappears and all i have to worry about it the mental part?

Jonny Rock,

Your story hit home as this is my first week too, I am heading back to work tomorrow.  The other responses on here about taking up a hobby does help, and I agree with you totally on not have any drive to do anything, that was me too.  For the last 4 days or so I've been posting here and it workers wonders.  The whole anonymity of it all makes it even better.   I have no reason to lie to anyone here and telling the truth does make you feel better, at least emotionally.

Make a list of things you like to do (except you know what), make some very short terms goals for now, like you'll walk a walk around the block tomorrow, or just sit outside and think about where you want to be.

Did you have hobbies before?   There are plenty of things out there.  Are you smart and like to work on puzzles, somewhat relaxed and like to watch TV?  How about pick up a good book (I know, that sounds corny, but it does work too).  I like to cook, and in the past two hours I've made some spinach dip and bread and the odd thing --- they taste and smell so much better.  You may not have the drive now, that's typical and it will only last a short time.  After you conquer the short terms goals, aim for the long ones.   First make a list of things you would like to do. Skydive? Snorkel?   I'm a neat freak, so I like to cook and clean. (Believe it or not, a clean house makes you feel better too, or perhaps I'm just nuts that way!)

Some people on here will mention anti-depressants, maybe a doctor can assist you in that process?  The whole key is to be totally honest with yourself, be honest with your doctor.   Isn't it time to stop with the lies? You deserve better than that and I can assure you, you're not alone in this.   I do keep a list of things I used to do/say and I'll post them below if you want to read and or relate to it.   It's also not something that you need to answer here, just something to think about:

1) Do the pills control you, or do you control the pills
2) Ever feel that "one more" will make you feel better and then regret it later?
3) Ever kick yourself for taking that "one or two more" and then say later " Why did I do that?
4) Hide this crap from friends and family
5) Become a human calculator so that you know exactly how many pills are left and how long they will last?
6) Ever take that "Just one more" only to convince yourself that you'll cut down on one the following day to make up for the extra one?

The funny thing about the brain is that it keeps reminding you of your past and it will give you any excuse to go back where you came from.

YOU control your life, you know that.  The great part of what you wrote, is that you know there is an issue.  We all have those hurdles in some sort of fashion, but that's all a part of life.

YOU have your whole life ahead of you.   Learn from the errors and move on.  There is no time machine, we all probably wish there was one!

Take charge, be strong and in a short time you'll look back and say That Was Crazy!

Keep posting, we're here to listen.  Ramble on if you'd like (I like to do that, ask anyone)  (LOL)

Good for you!!!  Stick to it, you can do it. Keep busy is good advice, go for walks, work out whatever it takes. My son is on an oxy weaning program, he started in Dec. and well here it is April and he is still on 2 x80 a day, what a joke, I am believing he will never get off them. And yes he too does snort them. If you can do it without any other drugs than I am proud of you.

Good to hear you have stopped. Did you just stop this weekend? Although withdrawls will be rough for a few days, it's the mental part that sticks around and most of us do need some help. Getting some support helps us STAY clean. I had to make some changes in my life to stay clean and your right, finding a hobby and keeping busy will help a lot. Force yourself at first if you have to.

Your so young man and addiction is progressive, so do whatever it takes to stop this cycle for good. This is a great support group, so stick around, you can do this:)

P.S. Look in the health pages here in the top right of this page. In there you will find the thomas recipe which can help with w/d's and also the amino acid protocal.  Good luck.

when i quit sniffing ocs the only thing that kept my mind off of it was work. i worked non stop i would put  in 70 to 80 hrs a week. It not only helped me forget about my habit but it helped replenish my bank account from all of the money i spent. just take it one day at a time and it also helps eo have a supportive friend family member or significant other. aa helps as well if you dint have none of the above just have someone to talk to.
