I quit percs, but ? about fioricet

I know some may be sceptical by me asking this...with me being an addict and all....but I suffer chronic pain and have used fioricet occasionally for my tension headaches when unbearable.  Now that I'm off percocet, and suffered dearly on withdrawls, I'm just curious if anyone thinks or knows if the fioricet will mess with my central nervous system-after the damage done by the opiates....I don't abuse the fioricet, never have, never will....too scared, but it really does help with certain pain.  I know it's a barbituate, not an opiate, that couldn't mess with my progress could it?  I asked a pharmacist while I was going through withdrawls, and he said no, but I swear I trust you people more than my doctors on most of this stuff.....

Please, be careful when taking the fioricet.  I am in the middle of getting off of it, and never in a million years thought I would be here.  It's amazing how quickly you can build a tolerance, start taking more and more.   It sounds like you are careful in using it, but if you want to discuss it in more detail, please message me.  I want to save anyone from going through what I am.

yey....you are probably right....let me know how you do with them...I would think that if I could leave them alone and take them only when I needed them, i would be ok with that drug...we have to continue our lives just a bit more cautiously

They actually don't make me feel anything, that's why I don't understand the abuse part of them, but maybe if people take more than one they do?????  I don't know....they just make the headache go away....thak worried...I appreciate it....I think the caffiene and sedative cancel eachother out.

Thanks honey, I know, I'm being careful....that's why I'm asking....just want to cover my butt....I don't want to do anything to hinder my progress, but still need relief on occasion.  I will NOT ABUSE

To Catmagnet:

Best of luck to you....this is a great site for help and support.  This is kind of a different situation as far as the drugs we're talking about....I'm not taking the fioricet to curb an urge for percocet....my DOC, it's for pain....but I understand what you're saying...

xanax is not the same as xanaflex....flutterby...just be careful with anything addictive in the future...there are a couple of people here and there asking about their addiction to fiorcet so I know it is possible...if you do not abuse them, just always beware...look up the ingredients anytime a doc gives you a medication from now on....we will make it

I took .5mg xanax about an hour ago to try to stem some of the craving for another vic seems to be working so far been 7 hours since my last vic I'm darn determined to do this the reason I think I'm doing well is because I didn't even join this site until I was completely fed up with myself. I hope I can keep moving forward...

I have taken xanax occasionally for several years on and off, it's a benzo so I don't know if it's the same thing or not, but I've never felt a grip with xanax like with the vics I can take it or leave it but it seems to help me from time to time i wouldn't think it would hurt anything to use once in a while but if start getting a bad feeling about it I would stop. Only you will be able to determine that, as everyone is different.

Exactly....I toughed it out on Thursday as long as I possibly could....7 hours of pain so bad it was in my ears....came home and cried and finally took one.  Trust me, I do not want to take pills...I really don't.  Anymore.  I'm just in this spot right now....I'm getting massages, bought a special brace, going to that clinic, I'm really trying to get to the source....the addiction and w'ds were a kick in the a$$ to get myself fixed-or try.

So maybe I'm not crazy??? Some does have codeine in it. I thought so.
I have had headaches since I was 14 (41 now) and I have tried all kinds of preventatives. Some work a while then your body gets use to them. I just suffer through and take a Imitrex when neccessary. I'm scared of all meds right now. I almost have a year behind me. I question my poor doctor on everything, he probably hates me but I don't care. He has been wonderful to me this past year I love him.

so, seeing as though it's not an opiate, it shouldn't trigger any withdrawls if taken in small occasional doses right?  I mean, I haven't ever taken more than one in the same day.  In the past, before I abused percs, I would try fioricet first, and if the relief would last under an hour I would move on to percocet.  Now, if relief only last an hour or less I don't even bother, because I know it's not going to work, I just suffer through.  For some reason, I always followed the directions on this bottle-lol....not to exceed!!!  I am and will be very careful.  I am in an interim spot right now...I'm seeking help from a drug and surgery free clinic starting next Friday but I need SOME relief in the meantime....thanks for your help....I appreciate it.

THat's what I was curious about, because I took one the other day and got diarhea the next day and felt fluish...maybe coincidental?....I don't know....I have imitrex too, but these aren't migraines.  I'm on topamax as preventative for migraines.  Not all fioricet has codeine in it...and this one does not.  it just has the barbituate, tylenol, and caffiene.

I looked up the ingredients in Floricet and it says barbituate, caffeine, and acetaminophen. Sorry I guess when the doctor told me caffeine I hear codeine.

floricet has codeine in it also it's a mild opiate so you may have WD from taking it. It is a barbituate, codeine and I think tylenol. Codeine for sure cause it was prescriped for my migraines about a month ago. I look everything up saw it had codeine in it and had to flush 'em.  I just use Imitrex when having a really bad migraine.

Barbs are addictive, but if you only used twice it should be fine.

I'm very aware about rebound headaches too...so I'm really cautious.  and i think it's only appropriate for the certain headache that has tension up my neck, back, and into my head causing headache.  I always have the tension, but it doesn't always cause the headaches...at least not daily anymore.
