Is this post really from May? Very confusing ...

Bobbyjean: I guess you brought it back up -- start a new post! I'd say go medical. If you can't, do the smallest amount of sub to ease the w/ds, and come back tomorrow, where the "suboxone people" can help you out.

If you do the latter, just take enough to ease the w/d's -- the party's over.

See you later on tonight, or tomorrow. Careful, please!

hey there bobbyjean, Im going thru the exact same thing, my boyfriend has threatened to leave me if i dont stop. Have you tried suboxin? Its an opiate blocker. anyways, Im not prescribed the medication, i get it on the street, but none the less, we are still addicted to the same drug, no matter where we get it. I was on day 5 of not smoking, but i caved in and got a half today, I really cant go cold turkey, i cry all day long and it makes my boyfrieend mad. He asks me everyday when are we going to be a normal couple. and that breaks my heart because i am really trying my hardest, but then he comes home and wants to have sex and be all lovey dovey and im just feeling so bad that to him it seems like i dont care about him. HELP ME ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oxy withdrawals are hell on earth. I was taking 5 80mg tabs a day and went cold turkey. Day 1-5 was spent puking, curled up in a ball, wanting to rip my skin of because of the creepy crawlies, hot cold flashes, and not one minute of sleep none. On day six I could'nt take it anymore I went into the emergency room, they gave me a shot of ativan (lorazepam). And a script for 30 2 mg ativan, Best thing I ever did. The ativan only lasted for 6 days, and the wd's came back not as strong but again limited sleep. Long story short the wd's lasted for 17 days and it took me over 2 months to regain a normal sleep cycle. Just to put into perspective how powerful oxycontin is, I was on 400mg per day of oxycontin, that would be the equivilant to 80 5mg percocet a day, or about 120 5mg vicodin per day. As they say  oxy is 2/3 stronger than hydrocodone. It's a long road to recovery, I think you need to talk to your doc asap!!!!!

but it is good that you are seeking help. we all start somewhere.

Hey There,
While I have never tried/taken oxycontin, it is a similar drug to vicodin/codeine etc, but prob stronger. However, your w/d symptoms are classic. Don't they stink?? It's horrible. Especially the restless leg syndrome and anxiety...but the no energy is awful, too. There were days when I literally felt like I couldn't move. Immodium, extra strength, will work wonders for the diarrhea! Please try it if you haven't already, and use it faithfully. When you aren't sh*ting your brains out, you are keeping some fluids and electrolytes and nutrients in your body, which is important. I would bet that tomorrow, possibly tomorrow night or Thurs, you will feel noticeably better. Stick in there...The biggest thing I tried to remember while w/ding was that this is only a week or two out of my whole life!!! Yes, it hurts. Yes, you're depressed. Yes, you have no energy and are exhausted, and yes, you feel like you are dying. But you know what? REMEMBER THIS FEELING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will help you never go back to this dark, scary place again!! You are doing so awsome. Please, please keep it up. If u feel like popping a pill, pop an advil or immodium, lol. Or a vitamin, even better. But to answer your ?, I experienced everything you did!

This sounds similar to what Yoda99 was taking when she went c/t.  I think she is gone for the week but you might look back to some posts by her from a few months ago.

Also, I think you w/d's are going to be way worse than hydrocodone/codeine w/d's because oxycontin is a LOT stronger and long acting.  I have never taken it myself I just know the differences in the strength and have read when people have went off of that compared to other things.  And the amount of time you were on the med is going to make it harder as well.  Can you talk to your physician and get something to help with the w/d's?  That is just such a large amount of such a strong medication I am afraid you are going to really suffer.  I can't even imagine the pain you will and are going through.  Try to remember your pain will be worse now because you have more pain receptors from takig the pain medicine and your own endorphins (your natural painkillers) have to start working again.

Stick around and I am sure someone who has come off of oxycontin will be able to share with you what they went through.  I do think that usually when doctors wean you (I realize that you went through your month's supply though) they would step you down to a lower mg and step you down slowly.

We are here for you.

You're right, slowlybetter...I figured codeine/vic was less strong, and isn't it shorter acting? Doesn't oxycontin stay in your system longer cuz time release, so you don't feel w/d as soon as you would with other painpills??

Yes, oxycontin is extended release and VERY strong.  It does contain the same main ingredient at percocet (oxycodone) but percocet is immediate release and the strongest it comes in is 10 mg and I think it usually isn't prescribed more than four times a day or so.  Percocet does have Tylenol in it but oxycontin doesn't.  Bobby Jean was taking 80 mg tablets several times a day.  Apparently people build up tolerance to it.  I personally weaned off of Percocet over several months and it wasn't bad.  But in comparison i wasn't taking very many mg compared to eight 80mg tablets of oxycontin.

By the way, bobbyjean, I didn't say anything to pass judgement.   Apparently you have been in some serious pain.  I was just explaining how the difference in the withdrawals would be since you were on such a high dose of meds.

I am a 51 year old woman that injured my back and had to have surgery. Another worker and I were moving a huge pole, very heavy, and he dropped his end. My back just seemed to jam up and come to find out I had broken a vertabrae. The doctor fashioned a new vertabrae out of bone from my hip and I have to wear a brace and of course I cannot lift. I am in pain all the time and the Oxycontins extended release helped a lot. Then I started taking more and more. Now I've run out two weeks early and have decided that this is my time to quit. I would rather have the pain than have my life controlled as it has been. Does this help anyone in telling me what my withdrawals might be like? Thank you. (Oh and I averaged 8 plus tablets of the Oxycontin Extended Release 80mgs a day, sometimes 12 and for about 3 1/2 years). Thank you, Bobbyjean
PS  My symptoms are diahreah, fever and chills, no energy, nauseated, legs hurt and flop around at night like fish; I just feel like I'm on my last leg.

Hi,
i apologize, i responded before reading your whole post. I can relate to "flopping around like a fish" very well. Once I fractured 6 vertebrae in my back and that is what started my whole pain pills addiction. I FEEL YOU. I did that for years when I detoxed, at home, at detox centers, rehabs. I eventually got tired around 4 am and would pass out. I couldn't lay still in one position for more then 1 minute. this feeling would start to creep in from my legs or my arms eventually would posses my whole body and I would try to bend my back to make it stop and so on...
I don't think you should suffer like this. There is help out there.
Yes, it eventually will stop. But when? We are all different. My spams lasted for weeks. every night.
Motrin 600-800 mg helped some what.
Flexeril helped. But I started sleep walking on it (flexeril) and got my self into a-lot of trouble. Once I was in a Psych. ward and tried to get into my roommates bed in the middle of night while i was sleepwalking in a daze. He got up and punched me in my face.
Then in a halfway house I took a-lot of them one night too and tried to get into everyones bed (with them in there) in the middle of night. Can you imagine that?
Anyways. I do not wan to see you suffer. I am sure you can get through it, but it will be painful.
There are medications out there that will help. but you have to be honest with a doctor. these meds are specifically for that.
good luck, God bless, i hope you get some rest tonight.

Also, some exercises will help. Get your self tired towards end of day. This would help you sleep. And it is good for you mentally too.

Thanks for all of your advice.  Today has been a terrible day.  I'm just afraid of it getting worse.  I'm a big chicken but cold turkey is the only way I could go.  Thanks again, Bobbyjean

LOL That was funny....the part about you climbing into bed accidentally with a roommate and he punched you. It reminded me of a 'friends' episode, something that would happen to Joey. lol
I was having a crappy day til I read that....sorry he punched you, but envisioning the situation made me LOLOLOL.

Yup, Day 3 is a rough one!  I think I felt at my worst mentally and physically at that point but mental is rough 3-5!  You are just tired of feeling lousy. I don't know how much you were taking daily but it will get better!  Hang on...it is a bumpy ride but it is a journey to recovery!  Keep going and posting and venting!
Peace,
Marcie:)

Hey Bobbyjean!!
Let me try and help you. Okay, day three c/t from oxycontins, you say? How many per day, what mg, etc? What, exactly, are you feeling right at this moment? Meaning, what are your physical symptoms? Day 3 is a VERY ROUGH day!!!!!!!!! Feeling like you are dying is prob normal, but just to be sure, what are your symptoms? By the way, not a doctor, just been through w/d so many times that I can prob tell you whether or not what you are feeling is normal. Get back to me. I'll keep checking for your post.
