I want to get of perks

Hi, I really need help and don't know were to yurn because of utter inbarassment. I have been on perks for 3 years now. My mood swings are crazy, one minute I'm happy then next I'm angry...I watch other "normal" people and just want to be my old self again. I take about 20 pills a day, I'm more worried about my next refill on my percripstion then anything else and always having enough pills. I'm scared of all the withdrawls..Someone please help, I'm falling into a deep depression..I can't concentrate nothing anymore. Noone knows about this addiction besides my husband, and it seems like he doesn't understand.

Do NOT forget the Imodium!!  Do not go generic.  You will need it for the opium trots and it seems to help with the withdrawal as well.  I started out with double the dosage for the first two or three days.  You need to take that under advisement, but it worked for me.  I took the l-tyrosine as suggested on the TR and backed down to 500 which was too much as well.  I am going to start taking it again now that I am 33 days clean. I took it in the morning when I started.  I was taking a Stress B vitamin with it and still take that.   Research is good.  I did that with the Imodium before I believed it really helped.  The Restless Legs is pretty tough for some people, it was for me.  You are desperate for sleep and it can kick your butt and keep that from happening.  If you have a problem there are OTC like the Hyland's Restful Legs..it helped me during the day to some extent, but did nothing at night.  I had run out of my normal prescription for that and was so happy when my doc returned from vaca and could get my script refilled.  It is one consideration to contact your doctor if that is a problem.  One suggestion is to call your doctor and see if they can help while you withdraw.  Some have had good support and others not so much. It depends on the doc.

Did you start taking for a medical need??  A lot of us did.

oh.. i have heard about bad dreams from people that took the melatonin and people that didn't ... melatonin didn't give me any problems at all and the same with valerian root, it really helped me... it is well known for the sedative and anxiolitic properties and as far as i know for sleeping disorders too..

But of course, there are always exceptions and the OP should do a rersearch and don't believe whatever is said by anyone in a forum, sure. :)

I wouldn't bother with the melatonin or valarian root.

Some people have a problem with melatonin (bad dreams), and just doesn't work well if you are getting up frequently anyways.

The valarian root just isn't as good as the natural amino acid supplements, it basically does the exact same thing, except it has less active ingredient in it and costs more.
What's in Valerian root? Tyrosine !  Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid and some Glutamine.

5HTP, theamine, and tyrosine are usually all you need, and some glutamine is always good too.  Plus you can adjust the amounts of each to tailor how much of a boost you need to the individual neurotransmitters they are specific to that you are having troubles with. You just can't do that with valarian root.

Calcium, Magnesium taken before bed, along with a few cups of strong green or black tea, (natural source of theamine 22mg per cup) will help calm you and help with sleep.

People claim to be having problems with Tyrosine, but when you dig a little deeper, it's because they are taking other sources of it without realizing it, and end up taking too much, and at the wrong time of day.

Taking Valerian root for  it's claimed sleep aid properties at bedtime, is actually giving you tyrosine, which you certainly do not want at bedtime.

It's not that I have anything against valarian root and other herbal remedies,  it's just it isn't as good when you are trying to adjust individual neurotransmitter levels during withdrawal. It's more of a 'broad spectrum" daily supplement for when you are otherwise 'normal" and not going through something like drug withdrawals.

Also try keep in your mind that you CAN do this, focus on the positive aspects of doing so.

I GUARANTEE that if you read the amino acid protocol,  and the Thomas recipe, get the supplies you will need (vitamins, Imodium, an electrolyte replacement to drink and keep hydrated with, some of the amino supplements)  and at most something to help with RLS (though the amino's and vitamins should be enough) that you will be able to do this easily.

Hi, welcome here Crystal :)... the mood swings were driving me crazy at the time .. being your old self may take some time but trust that whatever happens once you quit will be much better than living on active addiction, be focused on your recovery and all the work will pay off...Read the Tomas recipe at the health pages ( scroll down the page ).... there are some advices that can alleviate your wds... Mind that i would not take the Ltyrosine during the first days of wds and if you are going to take it, start with the lowest dose cause some people can feel jittery... Ok, lot of hot baths with epsom salts, mineral supplements like magnesium chelated and potassium, Hylands restful legs for RLS, vit C and B's,advil for aches and headaches, melatonin to help with sleep and valerian root to help with anxiety and sleep and Immodium for diarrhea..... days 2 and 3 are usually the worst but you will pull through them, take it as a bad flu..... and keep posting how you are feeling, you won't be alone :) GOOD LUCK !

Taking 20 Percs a day is taking 6500mg of acetaminophen as day as well.
That is more than TWICE the maximum daily amount of acetaminophen. You are literally playing a game of Russian roulette with your liver, every single day.  Is it really worth risking DEATH just for what little "buzz" and what you THINK  helps your mood?

There are natural amino acid supplements you can take that will help you with the mood problems as well as other withdrawal symptoms when you quit taking those things.

Check out the "Amino acid protocol" page at the bottom of the main page of this forum, as well as the "Thomas recipe", and the  foods that help boost your endorphins, and other related pages there.

You can easily quit taking those pills and have minimal withdrawal symptoms with these remedies, but none of them will help if you don't WANT to quit taking those pills, and you don't put any effort into it.

No mattter what aids there are, you are going to have 3-5 days of discomfort, but with the vitamins, amino acids, and perhaps some Imodium,  they are tolerable.
There is no vitamin, amino acid supplement or pill that is going to make you WANT to stop taking those pills. That has to come from within your own self. I would certainly rather put up with a little temporary discomfort rather than risk one more day of taking an overdose of acetaminophen and killing my liver.

I would reduce my dose immediately if i were you, so that it's at least under 3000mg acetaminophen/day  and go get those supplies and begin my quit day Friday morning. That way you will be over the worst of it by Sunday evening.
