I wish i never did this!

My wife recently found my bottle of Suboxone in my car with a straw in it. I had been crushing and snorting anywhere from 4-12mgs a day for the past year. My DOC before this was Oxycotin which i was using for about 2 years hences why i am on Suboxone but doctors LIE it is just as addictive and w/d's are just as bad as any pain medicine. So my wife and kids left me temporaly while i clean up i am on day 6 today and i have constant back/leg pain, trouble sleeping and just VERY uncomfortable. I will assure you i will never use again but how long will this last?

Thank you all for the support! I will admit that I was not following direactions from my doctor and began snorting them. I found out being able to do so while still in high school and I really can't tell you why i did it this time i just DID. I wasn't trying to abuse it (if you can believe that or not) if i didn't go on it I would of been lying to my wife about going to the store, getting gas, going to the gym or anything like that to go buy drugs off the street. But I am very happy to tell everyone reading this I am in fact feeling 100% better today (day 8) and i have been attending NA meetings and i am going to meet with my family back her parents house. Thank you all for the support and pray her mother is kind!!!

go to www.naabt.org and read some of the success stories there. I am on Suboxone and that website gave me much hope after reading alot of negative info on here, alot of it from people who weren't even on  it. Good luck, my prayers are with you.

Nonetheless, suboxene is addictive.  Speaking from experience.  Even used properly.  All the best.

suboxone is NOT as addictive as other narcotics, or more so, and it does not require months - years to stop taking suboxone unless you choose long term maintenance, which i did ...
and heres why its not as addictive or more so...

An agonist is a drug that activates certain receptors in the brain. Full agonist opioids activate the opioid receptors in the brain fully resulting in the full opioid effect. Examples of full agonists are heroin, oxycodone, methadone, hydrocodone, morphine, opium and others.

An antagonist is a drug that blocks opioids by attaching to the opioid receptors without activating them. Antagonists cause no opioid effect and block full agonist opioids. Examples are naltrexone and naloxone. Naloxone is sometimes used to reverse a heroin overdose.

Buprenorphine is a partial agonist meaning, it activates the opioid receptors in the brain, but to a much lesser degree then a full agonist.

Buprenorphine also acts as an antagonist, meaning it blocks other opioids, while allowing for some opioid effect of its own to suppress withdrawal symptoms and cravings.

hard to get addicted to something you dont feel, when used properly.

I raised the question about snorting sub and he was doing it for some sort of a buzz. He seemed to be receptive to the various points of view we presented and hopefully he can change. There was someone else here a month or so ago he went to a doc to detox on sub and was snorting it. No body seemed to adress that but now everyone (mostly) seems to agree that snorting is sort of a junkie move. I know people who snort percs and that doesn't even make sense, snorting tylenol. Any that's not the focus, The main thing is this guy was trying to abuse a drug that isn't supposed to be abusable or normaly isn't abused. It kind of teminds we of methadone  when some people say it doesn't get you high. It sure got me high! all the best

I'm sure that since you were prescribed suboxene you are aware of why it is used.  I am also quite certain that you are familure with what you should and shouldn't have done, therefore will remain commited to the focus of answering your question, and sustain from preaching or lecturing.  Yes it is true, suboxene is just as addictive if not more so than that of narcotics.  Unfortunately, if not tapered from slowly (meaning over months or even years) the withdrawl process is very similar to that of methadone.  Truly apologize for being the bearer of bad news, however, it is with great regret that I must tell you that this is going to be an extremely difficult task, and find it within your best interest to possibly get more suboxene and start over properly.  All the best.

thank you fishmeal, magi, mary and MJ...when used properly sub saves lives...and when tapered off properly little to no WD's...
were you in any position to taper  properly when you decided you had enough? it would have been a whole lot easier on you...a longer process, but so much easier on your system..do you have any clonidine?  maybe put a call into your sub doctor and ask for some, it helps WD's tremendously and isnt addictive...usually they will call it in for you...worth a try for some relief...
but it is still work, its no magic pill for sure, science is no where near that one yet, i think as addicts were pretty much at the bottom of the totem pole on a cure...
but stopping addictive behaviors is what taking sub is all about hun...maybe at that point and time you werent ready to let it go? everyone reaches "that certain point" in their life where enough is enough...i hope your at that point now...and maybe you should look into some aftercare for when your through the worst of it, you'll have the support you need to stay off drugs for good...worth a try, cant hurt...
good luck to you and i hope it passes quickly for you...

hun.. you weren't using the Sub corectly.  and you were doing it as well, with "old behaviors" (snorting) so it really was switching drugs for you... not moving toward getting clean.

it doesn't sound like it IS the right method for you since you weren't able to use "as directed."

I would suggest going to NA, getting a councelor - something ELSE - to help you move toward getting clean.

the energy will eventually come back, so know this is temporary.  that should give you some of the incentive to stay clean.  you CAN and will get "back to normal."

I know this has to be tough getting hooked at such a young age, but many before you have gotten clean and so can you.

keep posing!! and consider a new method of "treatment."  you CAN win this battle.  I know it may feel insurmountable, but it's not.  it just takes work. and I know it may, again, be HARD, because you started so early and it was all around you.  I am so sorry... that's a tough one... really tough.  and you didn't deserve to have to be surrounded by it.

but again - you CAN get and stay clean.  and again, i think it will require something "new" for you.  so please consider it.

we are here for you... you can do this.

very warmly,
mj

First of all I want to thank each one of you for posting on here and i know there are a lot of questions. My entire High School and even county I grew up in was consumed by Oxycotin so when all of these teenagers tried to get help a lot were given either methadone or Suboxone(me of course). So think about all these kids with this new pill with old habits in there head, and believe i would of never thinked twice about snorting it but eventually I caught wind of it. It doesn't get you "higher" but you just fell it faster, and once again I was the only one that knew i was taking subs i hide it from my family just like i did with my DOC. I guess the only "high" I got from it was at work or home i didn't care what task i was given i was happy to do it and did it well! Of course there were bad things about it too, I was tired a lot and i had a very hard time with my old lady in the sack. So know that I am off I don't want to do any type of work, I cannot sleep at all I guess i have RLS now from subs, and just uncomfortable. I am 20 almost 21 years old I don't think I should be felling like this I use to play 4 sports a year!! So to everyone reading this using suboxone please be careful and don't do as i did, much love to all of you god bless.

I guess snorting it is just about as potent as sticking it under your tounge.  Can't imagine getting high on the stuff?????  I've been on the sub for about 17 months and doing well.... never need more than directed and actually taking less and less as the months roll on.  For me it was a cure.... from all of the addiction behaviors in the past like doc shopping and buying and "borrowing" from my wife.... much better life now.   The interesting thing is that 3 norcos have no effect on me now whatsoever..when in the past I would have my light lit high for about 3 hours.  At least you are not back in that saddle.  Life sucks trying to chase that old high.

I am with Mr. Lucky..if you want to get high why not just take the real narcotics?  Why even bother with the Suboxone?  It is prescribed to help you not want a "High" and it has done that for me. I don't get it.?????

I guess sub is not a good plan for you if you snort it...that is a new one on me but we are all addicts and I dont think any of us are proud of what we have done in the past...I am not...I am proud that i did something about it and sounds like you have want to get on track again....keep posting

I can't believe you were snorting it. It isn't a good high? Another guy was here and got a script for sub and was snorting it in an attept to detox, not very good. Your case is different in that you were taking it to abuse it or get a buzz. I think this drug could be causing people new problems. I hate to say it but if you want to get high why not take real narcotics.? I hope you can kick and get back on track.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife leaving, but I'm very happy to hear that you're clean, YEAH!!
Now moving along to your question. I know it took me about 3 weeks to get rid of the majority of the w/d symtoms. Drink lots of water or gatorade and take some vitamins. Exercise as much as your body will tolerate, such a walk around the block. For the sleep issue I take Melatonin, natural sleep aid, and it works for me although I have to take 2 instead of the 1 that they recommend that you take.
You will start seeing the light at the end of this dark tunnel very soon and things only improve from where you are now.
Keep posting as there are so many caring people on here with lots of good advice and support. Finally the last thing you need to do is keep a positive attitude. You didn't get to where you are now within a couple of weeks so give your body the time it needs to get rid of all the nasty toxins that have built up.

Silly question..and sorry for my ignorance on the subject, however, I know that vicodin makes us feel like superman and or whocares...but what does sub do for you? I really don't know and I've never seen a post about it. We've all posted about vic's and why we continued to take them, it's how it made us feel. Does sub work the same way?
Keep up the good work moose! Actions speak louder than words. Well done is better than well said.
Keep posting and thank you in advance for answering my question..

Thank you so much this site has been such a big help towards my recovery. I am also in the military so it makes things worse because its like i am always having to do tasks and i don't have the energy or motivation to do it like i did while using so i just want to hide until this pasts! Its ironic my job is to keep drugs out of our country and her i was doing them at work I am so disappointed in myself...

I am sorry your going through this , but Suboxone is great drug if used properly. It needs to be tapered off very slowley not to feel withdrawals. It's hard to say how long your withdrawals will last because of the half life of sub. You jumped off at a pretty high dose and it could take a couple weeks to get through the worst of it (from everything I've read)  I am on sub and doing a slow taper so don't know first hand only what i've read. Sorry
