IM TAKING A POLL

Hi! I read earlier today something about weight gain, so I would like as many responses as possible so that I can be prepared for what might happen. How many of you stopped using narcs. & gained weight? I figure if I know now then it won't shock me so much when it happens. Thanks!

I have, and I really don't want to admit it, or talk about it...LOL But I will....

When I put the drugs down, I found food. I have never been heavy in my life, but with my age and my inability to exercise, I am putting it on faster than I am taking it off.

Now I am depressed. Thanks for asking...LOL

IM SOOOO SORRY!!!! I didn't mean to upset you. I eat all the time now & I don't gain at all so my luck I will gain when I quit. That's what exercise is for...right? I know my weight should be the least of my worries, I am just really curious about the outcome for most. Thanks again!

Actually I lost 10lbs because I didn't want to eat.  I had no appetiete at all and could go a day with maybe eating a lite lunch and lite dinner.  Nothing just sounded good.  The only thing I wanted to eat was sweets like cereal and I got addiccted to Oreo's.  It was like the munchies after you smoke some weed or something it was wierd.  I geuss everyone is diff.  All together I think I lost 15lbs since Dec 6th.

I lost weight (like avis) when I ditched the drug habit.
It varies from person to person

I thought for sure I would lose weight since I drank a lot of beer with my pain meds.  I was wrong.  Like IBK I took to food and honestly, the lack of energy made me become much more sedentary.

I always felt that food would mess with my buzz, so I wouldn't eat until I was sure all of the meds had absorbed.  I am not obese by any means, but I would like to lose about 25 pounds to get back where I was before I quit.

Hi New,i found that while on percocet for example i gained fat.I have also spoke to many people who attribute methadone and weight gain.I have been told that we become insulin resistent.I believe that narcotics slow the metabolic rate,as at first your riddled with extra energy and once we are dependant, its difficult to make it to the store, and i mean the drug-store.I start Suboxone on tuesday and thank-god as at times i feel like i am going under.I popped a 40mgs earlier and didnt know if i was experiencing an anziety attack,or in the process of over-dosing.Best of luck john

I lost 30lbs since July.  I'm at 110, i'm about 5'6.  I want to gain my weight back.  At least 20lbs.  I'm on day 5 no pills and have been eating like a horse.  I'll stop when I get to my goal.

I gained 45 pounds after I got clean, but I really needed to - I truly looked like a Death Camp survivor when I got to my last rehab.  I weighed 128 before and 173 now.  I put on 30 pounds in the first 30 days just from normal eating and drinking water.  Another 15 went on over the next year, but most of that is from working out on a regular basis.

I'm only day 11, and I can't get enough to eat.  I'm sure I've already put on 3 lbs.  I have a small frame and had a back surgery so it is necessary for me to keep my body at only 4% body fat.  I'll have to work real hard real soon or I'm in trouble.

When on the oxy, I didn't want to eat & ruin the effect. Now on suboxone & @ first food was sooo delicious, now I'm trying to cut back on food. I was initially sooo constipated on the sub. @ first I gained about 5-7lbs on the sub, & I have a very small fraim. I've cut back & I'm now about 122lbs & am 5'1". Would like to get back down to about 118, we'll see. I'm also eating much better & drinking more water & green tea. Good luck!
