I'm back yet again...Fioricet

Hi everyone, some may remember me form a few years ago. I have worked really hard to get off this medication. I've done a very slow taper. Yesterday I went from 2 tabs a day to 1 a day. I'm not feeling too great. Had tummy problems all day and leg cramps. Maybe u should have gone to 1 1/2 instead? Hoping it'll pass and its normal w/d stuff. I thought that if I weaned slowly I might escape them. Just wondering if that's normal. I have been taking this medicine for years and have never been able to get down to one a day. I have been going to mtgs 2-3 week and reading every book I can find on recovery. Thank you for any tips you may have.

Thank you! I go to 2 mtgs a week and it's really helped a lot. I need the support for sure! I'm also involved with writing to kids that are in jail or prison because of addiction. I have had moments where I don't know what to do with myself but they pass. I've learned a lot about the stages and prevention of relapse too. Now for step work :)
God bless you all. I'll be around...

Hey Kathy  it is so good to see you break free of this drug and im glad the forum helped you do it....now it is time to live life on lifes terms and without mothers little helper it can be a ruff road  I been clean a wile now  but still go to 3 to 4 N/A meetings a week as well as speaking at the local rehab here in phx twice a month  get involved with N/A with time and working the steps you will loose the very desire to use something I thought was impossible....you now got to become a member of the ''we dont pick up no mater what club''  keep posting for support....................................Gnarly............................................

Wow, MM, that is a crazy but super accurate description of what I have been experiencing. While it's uncomfortable dealing with life, it's also very exciting! I am finally free of the burden I carried for so long. It's only been a few weeks, but I am doing well other than some depression. I understand it's going to take time to heal my brain. I'm okay with that knowing that it WILL get better everyday.  Thank you guys again for all of your support and encouragement!

you will be free of this drug, I just know it :)

And yes.....it took me a loooong time even at a low dose to take that final leap. When I did, I still had withdrawal to an extent. I can't really describe it outside of it being like birth...like being born again. I felt like an infant coming into a world and being uncomfortable and wanting just to go back where I came from...where it was warm and safe. It was very odd. I still remember that first day like it was yesterday. The following weeks were hard, too. If I hadn't had my support team, I don't know if I could have done it.

Still, I did. You will, too. You've come this far and that is HUGE...it will happen :)

thak you all once again.
~MMayberry, Im so glad to hear you have been able to follow along in Vicki's footsteps! I am right behind you both and very thankful.
I took .25 on sat and sun. I will probably do the same today and then flush everything i have. I cannot express how much i appreciate your help throughout the years. THANK YOU all for always being available for support. As you know, most ppl, including doctors are clueless about this drug. I had a Nuerologist tell me to just stop... after taking these for so many years. He said that there would be little to no w/d. I left there feeling pretty hopeless, BUT here I am, going strong. Have a great day!

You're getting there Kathy!  Think about getting some outside support/therapy. There's a reason why the use gets so out of control and difficult to let go.  Find that reason and you'll feel better. Talking about it helps so much and finding a healthier habit helps too!  ;)

It was great that MM checked in. He's an expert and a good friend.  xo

keep at it. there are several here who followed your path and have some good clean time...you aren't alone. I am 3 years clean next month and as vicki stated, she has a good chunk of clean time! I remember when both her and I were still using and coming to this site...she quit before I and I just COULDN'T take that last leap...but it finally happened. Keep your goal in mind...celebrate where you are...and keep getting support :)

You can do it!

Hi Everyone, Just thought I'd drop in to say that I'm still on track and doing well. I had to do 1.5 pills a day (dropping 50% was too hard)  then last week I did 1 a day. This week I'm at 1/2 pill for a couple days. Soon I'll be off completely. Thanks for listening!

As you know, listen to Vicki.  She gives great advice.

Hi Kathy- I'm still around but not here as often as in the past; things change over the years!  I've been away from Fioricet for 5 1/2 years and sorry to read you're still struggling.

So, you're feeling better today after dropping to one pill per day? I'm glad about that. Remember, when you went from two to one pill, you dropped by 50% so you'll feel that.  I answered your PM and gave you some specific advice there so check your messages.   Let me know how you're doing and if I can help in any other way. Good luck!

Welcome back!

Just here for Support!!
Sounds like w/ds to me too! As you know we can not give tapering advice on here, but I can say, to just give your Brain/Body time to adjust to each drop. I think a taper will make it less intense and not linger on so long. I did get down from a big does off my 3 meds and then stopped. I could not feel any w/ds until I got way down. Did not give it the time it needed, but I could not do it alone, so I ended up getting help. It was NO fun at all and very intense, as it went on & on for ever it seemed. This was over 3 yrs ago. Methadone was one of mine, so that alone is a beast!

Sounds like YOU are doing all the right things here. Just make sure you try to build your Immune system up to par. There are all kinds of things out here that will help with the immune system. I now see that Airborne and Emergen-C have some good ones. I bought all mine from a natural source, so it did get a bit spendy. Drink tons of water and you can add some good things to the water too. Eat very Healthy. A Great immune system will pay in the end. Good Luck! Stick around for Support and to Support others along the way.
Bless
Vickie

Hey girl.....great job.  I don't know about this drug myself but others will come by soon.  Just lending support.........I think it's quite normal though....sounds like normal w/d symptoms.  I get that tapering is so that we don't experience the worst of the worst, but I think there's no escaping w/d altogether unless we're quite rare.  I wouldn't worry about it being anything else though.

Good luck .....you can do this.
