I'm clean 10 days but........

I'm 10 days clean. I was taking 30 to 40 Vicodin or oxy or percs or really any pain med I could get my hands on when I ran out of my own scrip. I went through an in house rehab program. I do not have anymore of the bad withdrawls and I'm not craving them. I do however have this sense of crawling out of my skin just cranky no energy. I'm sleeping well in between my RLS which I thought would never happen when I was trying to detox at home on my own. When I left rehab they told me to get an ant-anxiety medicine called trazodone. There is just one problem I have no insurance I was laid off and now no insurance. Can anyone give me any advise as to what might help me like some sort of over the counter medicine. I just don't know what to do. I'am trying at the moment to see if I can pay cash for a Doctors visit but I'm still waiting for a return call. So any help/comments/advice would be appreciated.

I hit day 21 today - clean from Vicoden or anything else like you. Cold turkey on my own, still worked and did everything else I have in my life. Was hard the first week and a half. But I was still getting grumpy, not sleeping well, and having RLS type of issues at night and leg/bone pains at night. Last night was the best night sleep I've had the entire time. I hate to say it, but the mood swings, the sleepless nights, energy level swings are a normal part of WD and they will fade with time. I notice mine fading more and more everyday. Hang in there, it will get better! You are through the hardest part - what killed me was not sleeping well then having a bad day being tired and grumpy the next day. Good sleep is almost key to keeping going well - I tried Benadryl (worked some nights, most not), Valerian Root (worked some nights, others not, Melatonin, and Ambien (I have a script for insomnia that I rarely used so I had like 15 pills). Ambien worked best and I used probably 7 nights out of the past 21, don't really need them now and haven't had one in probably a week.

Thank you everyone for your support it means so much to me to have all of you. I'm so glad the worst of the withdrwals are over I dont feel sick anymore!! However I'm still looking for a doctor to get the trazadone that the rehab clinic told me to get, it really helped me in rehab. I have learned so much about my body through this experence I do have anxiety and I know I have to be treated for it one of the many reasons I used. I took Benadryl last night before I read all of your post about not taking it so my sleep was rough most of the night with RLS but once the benadryl wore off I slept 4 hours all on my own today and woke up feeling pretty good. NO MORE BENADRYL!!. I knew better then to take it because I had read many times that is does make RLS worse but at the rehab clinic they gave me the trazadone and then later the Benzo, so I thought.... well it would be alright but it must have been the trazadone that helped me sleep not the Benadryl. Anyways its just my energy level now that *****....big time. I want that pep back in my step, you know that urge to want to get up and do stuff. I know it will take time. I tried cold turkey so many times and failed but this clinic used 7 different meds they knocked me out for three days and brought me back slowly. I almost did the methodone but the Lord must have been looking over me because the surroundings in that place was horrible and the people were mean. I left crying knowing that was'nt for me and then I considered the suboxone but it is way to expensive and it is really just trading one for another I did my homework. The place I went to was called "A Place for Women" They charged me $1,050.00 I was so loved and welcomed and taken care of they are really are people who care, but the price of some of these clinics is outrageous!! Some of the ones I called are like $10,000 $14,000 and up It's sad that it can't be more afordable because people are suffering this I know I was and still am but like I said I think the worst is over I just now have to keep my mind in check because it seems to wonder right back into my addiction and that part for me is scary. Thank you all again for your support and I will go to the health store tomorrow and pick up of the things that you all have mentioned to try and get my energy level back up but I know it will take time. Hugs and Blessings to everyone out there with this disease.

Dont take Nyquil.  I have lived with RLS my whole life.  Nyquil makes it soo much worse.  Any anihistamine (sp?) will make it worse.  Eat lots of bananas and get that Hylands Restful legs stuff.  I hear it works really well for RLS

Congrats on 10 days .Like yourself I was taking 30-40 vikes ,perks 10mm a day.You are heading in the right direction stay focused and work on your recovery.I found it helpful to drink about 2-gallons of water a day and at night I would take over the counter sleeping meds.Today I have102 days opiate free.It was tough early on but life just keeps getting better .I do remember cold turkey withdrawal and all the negative crap that goes with it.I had to get involved with a program of recovery through AA-Na and that is what I do to stay clean. You will be in my prayers best of luck My sister

Tazodone is used for sleep and anxiety at night before bed..also an AD....not really the best thing for what u describe
there r otc meds for sleep like benadryl, melatonin and valerian root...valerian root is also great for anxiety during the day as is benadryl in smaller doses than used for sleep..all r cheap as well
there are some herbs like KAVA KAVA, ashgwanda, but probably more expensive
restless legs is a nuisance but exercise during the day can help, compression like ace wraps, massage, hot baths or a jacuzzi if u can, muscle rubs like ben gay, attention to ur iron intake and tonic water can all help.  A dose of calcium with 800 mgs of magnesium at night can also help relax u.  There is an article in the health pages on RLS that may help u.  Rls is caused by the sudden wd of dopamine from ur body...ur brain will catch up on dopamine production and time will take it away///exercise is the fastest way to produce dopamine to help this...gambling, chocolate and sex also helps  (:   but all can get u into trouble cept maybe chocolate!  LOL

hang tight....this will pass...be safe and keep posting

Hi~  In addition to all the above great advice you might try taking some amino acids,B vitamins. Also, some take Nyquil to help with calming,as directed.  If you have tonic water at home that has quinine in it and will help the legs. You need all the vitamins really...Keep posting

I beleive you can get a months worth of trazadone at wal-mart for 4 bucks. They have a lot of meds like that there. So, if you can get that doctors visit you should be able to get this med no problem at wal-mart. Best of luck.

Oh....Hylands also makes something called "Calms Forte".  You might try it.  It's for nerves and anxiety, I believe!

I don't know of anything for anxiety besides Valerian Root.  It's not going to be anything you will "feel".  Just supposed to help, I think.  If you have RLS be careful and don't take antihistimines like Benadryl or Tylenol PM.  Those make RLS 100 times worse for me.  I use Hylands Leg Cramps with Quinine.  Lots of other people use Hylands Restful Legs.  Both can be bought over the counter; but hey help RLS and not anxiety.

Ten days is awesome but still early, so give yourself a chance.  The restlessness and crawling and crankiness will get better slowly.  There are also vitamins you can use for energy.  Look on the health pages!  I am doing some of that now, and it is definitely not hurting anything.

Good luck.  Hope you feel better soon!

I take 10mg of Melatonin (you can find it at GNC) as a natural sleep aid. It really does help me. Don't get me wrong its not gonna knock you out but it does relax me right before I go to bed. Valerian Root is also a natural sleep aid. Both of these I was given in rehab so I know they are safe. Good Luck!
