Hi ....well looking in from the outside your habit dosent seam to be extream enough to me to justifie sub....sub was intended for the most chronic abusers ones that have tried and failed repeatedly to get off on there own unsuccessfully it shouldent be a first time approach
this would be like going from the frying pan into the fire...withdrawals are no fun no one that has been threw them would ever tell you differently but sub withdrawals are some of the worst to come off from and often involve months of tapering only to go threw a long hard withdrawal after it is all said and done...with your habit now your talking around 3 to 4 days of flu like symptoms with a little added anxiety verses 2weeks to a month worth of sub withdrawals ....most short term sub treatments dont work long term...they never address the long term problems that face the addict...the very thing that drove you to use and abuse in the first place...sub saves lives if your eating 25 or 30 hydros a day the acetaminophen is going to kill you quicker then the narcotic in this case I could see sub being helpful if used in conjunction with aftercare to build up a solid foundation to be able to stand on your own 2 feet eventually then sub withdrawals are justified...
dont fear the withdrawals there always worst in our minds then they actually turn out to be...embrace them as they are the beginning to the end of a vicious cycle of addiction...if you want it badly enough you can do it...we will be here to support you ether way but I hate to see people get traped in sub or methadone when there habits are not that out of control...sub should never be looked at as a get out of jail free card if your addicted eventually you will pay the pied pipper and suffer threw withdrawals you just have to decide for yourself what is the best approach for you..good luck and God be with you.....Gnarly

I hope this comment helps. I would rationalize my drug use for back pain, and to stay motivated for work and family. It always seemed easier to stay on drugs so I could avoid withdrawals or back pain and be a good parent. That sounds silly now, but at the time I believed it. Soon my back hurt worse, and I would run out of pills and go through withdrawals. I was honest with my doctor, and he made a plan for my recovery. Physical therapy is statistically the best cure for back problems. It worked for me! Suboxone maintenance worked for staying off opiates/opioids, but I was taking up to 5 oxycontin 80mg/day. The withdrawals from oxy to suboxone were the worst of my life, but worth having a consistent life. Two years later I quit suboxone.

Thank you so much for the info you guys are giving me but I did check with my insurance an they said i can get a 30 day supply for 50 dollars and said that i couldnt get it at the pharmacy that they would have to deliver it to me. I dont understand that does anyone know about? I dont know whats going to happen im going to see what happens from tomorrow afternoon till monday that I have my appt. its true if I can pull it off for 48hrs by myself but I wont know until I start feeling my W/D which scares me soooo much I dont know if I will be able to do it!!!! THANK YOU

Hi, I have detoxed twice of Vicoden using Suboxone.  Both times I was in an In-Patient Facility.  The Facility only kept the Clients on the Suboxone for a week.

The reason you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can take the Suboxone is because if you take it too soon after your last dose of a Narcotic you can have a very severe reaction.

The Treatment Facility I was at started me off on a Dose that was based on the amount of Vicodin I had been taking daily.  Then during the course of the week the Suboxone was tapered and stopped.  The Facility did not want Clients being on the Suboxone beyond Seven Days since Suboxone itself is addictive.

Another time I went on "Suboxone Maintenance" because I couldn't stop using.  I was on it for a year.  During this year I sought no Recovery at all.  At the end of the year  I went to the Dr. and said I wanted to come off the  Suboxone.  He said it was so hard to get off that I might as well stay on it for the rest of my life.

Well that scared the you know what out of me, and I was determined to get off it.  It took a year and it was very hard.

So, for Short Term Detox, Suboxone is very effective, for long term maintenance I would not reccomend it.

I hope this was helpful.

I can tell you from personal experience that if you can do 48 hours, you can make it!  That is the peak of the bad physical part.  I wouldn't go on sub after that many hours of misery.  Then you just have to go through a long, horrible, tapering process to get off the sub.  No way, but that is just my opinion!  I usually call it like I see it, and if you get some support and have determination, you can do it!  Have you thought of seeing a therapist or NA meetings?  You can break this cycle, and you will be free to enjoy your life without the ball and chain of pills!!!!

Good luck! : )

From what I understand (because I have personally not touched this drug)  the withdrawals are directly proportionate to length of use and the amount of hydro you've taken daily. The withdrawal is worse than the hydro withdrawal. So,it would be: do it now or do it later.

Without the sub it would be about the same. But,not as bad.  Sub is also very expensive so definitely check on that.

Thanks vicki595 I have health insurance and at that clinic they take private insurance but I have no idea how much the medication cost and if my insurance will cover for it I plan to call tomorrow an see if it covers that med.....and yes some friend told me if I could go thru the first 48hrs with out the suboxene I can do it myself but the problem is that I need to feel at least ok to be able to go to work thats one of my BIG problems if I could get some time off i would do it on my own.

About how long do you think I would go thru the W/D without the suboxene?

Only you know if it's right...I can only suggest to you:  If you have explored ALL other options and this is the absolute ONLY avenue for you, then it's what you need to do.

Be sure you know EXACTLY what suboxone treatment entails, the cost, and how you will stop that drug...

In the "health pages",upper right of this page, there is info on Suboxone.

I WILL say,if you can be in withdrawal for 2 days, you can stop this on your own, right?
