Yes, that is very helpful. Thank you. I have noticed that I have been eating anything in my path lately. I thought that was the suboxone. I have taken amitriphtaline (sp?) in the past, and it worked well for me before my Ambien days.
I just wonder why no one every talked to me about choosing a non narcotic sleep medicine over a narcotic one. No one, not one of the doctors I saw ever mentioned there was an alternative.
Thanks for the info about it causing withdrawal symptoms, though. I see my doctor today, and I will speak with him about it.
Although Doxepin is a tricyclic AD, it is also prescribed for insomnia. I was on a tricyclic AD called amitriptyline for about 90 days and wanted to let you know that they do come with a discontinuation syndrome of their own.
They also affect a certain neurotransmitter that can cause weight gain...they certainly did for me.
Since you are on suboxone right now, I'm a little surprised your dr thought you needed this AD.....but because of your high use of Ambien, he must have determined it was in your best interest.
One last thing, there is an interaction checker for suboxone.....and there are 146 meds (over the counter AND prescription) that are contraindicated if you are taking suboxone. Didn't know if you were aware of that or not.
I did check the Doxepine...and it wasn't on there...but amitriptyline was.
Hope that helps~
It has antidepressant qualities because it is an antidepressant. Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant drug with significant sedative effect. Its FDA approved for insomnia. Also, suddenly discontinuing Doxepin may cause withdrawals so be aware of that.
