Hi my son (33 yr. old) just passed away 5 months ago. He found a quack Dr. who prescribed him Vicodin, OxyContin,Xanax, klonopin all at one time. I noticed some of you are being subscribed high dosages and 200 tablets.
Please try to see a therapist or holistic way to help your emotional pain and physical try tens machines or acupuncture.
When my son died he left behind 3 sons all under the age of 12. On top of all that crap he took, his death was caused by heroin overdose. I had some oxycontins left (only 10 mg.) that helped me through my grief and loss and yes you feel so much better really fast then once it wore off I felt more depressed than ever. It wasn't until then I understood his addiction disease. And the Dr. Who got him started lost his license to write narcotic prescriptions but not soon enough. He's still practicing but he killed a senior because he gave an 80something woman too much meds.
I luckily wasn't on oxy very long but long enough that I know you may feel good for a little bit but long term you will die from liver disease or overdose. If you have sleep apnea, hypertension you are at extreme high risk of heart failure or overdose than people who aren't.
Kudos to you who want to quit. You have realized the risks. You can do it but wean off slowly. Ask your dr. how, stopping cold turkey can also be dangerous. God be with you all, my prayers are with you.
Thanks for both your replys and its so good to know that others are so willing to help.
I am using due to RSD from numerous surgeries on a foot, am disabled from it and have horrible pain from the injuries and RSD.
I am also depressed I believed lots of things going on financial and the pills help to deal with the emotional pain as well.
I sure am trying to hang tight.......

it is said that oxy is a bit stronger..some would argue that as hydro is their doc...and oxycontin has no tyelonol///pers do...so oxycontin can be abused more easily..ie snorting and shooting...neither r a picnic to get off of...at 12 days u have a good bit of clean time...what were the reasons u quit 12 days ago??? they havent changed and it will take some time for ur brain to heal..u r possibly depressed and using to avoid the doomer feelings u r having...can u hang tight?
i agree those are bad enuf these thngs can be he'll to get off but stay strong cause the longer u take em the more u end up needing and trust me whn i say the harder it gets to get off them so do it NOW so u will never have top go thru it again and be done cuz belive me when i tell u that it is sooooooo not worth it if anyone knows it truly is me and i am having such a terriable time and have been for a while. but be strong and do what deep down u kno u need to do. good luck and stay strong u can def do it. just ask me anythng u need if u need any answers and ill try help if not just stay with it good luck to ya
Thanks so much also to jt808, thank goodness I am not on oxycontin then cause I am having a really hard time right now, as I want to take a pill so bad but I know I shouldn't.

no it is not the same oxy is more potent and is hard to get off so is hydro but the w/ds are suppose to be a lil harsher but they all suk
Both substances contain the morphine molecule, but different number of molecules per milligram. Also, oxy is more soluble and I believe it is a first pass metabolite, meaning it crosses the blood brain barrier after one pass thru the liver, where hydro is metabolized twice by the liver before becoming active. Oxy is much more powerfull than hydro per milligram and has a meaner withdrawel too.
