Is Lortab safe for recovered Tramadol addict

I am recovered from an 8-year tramadol addiction.  I just had a root canal done and they prescribed Lortab.  Can I take 1 or 2 safely for this pain?

Are you in that much pain that advil wont help you? If so then what I would do is give them to someone and have them give them to you as needed. I have been clean 2 yrs but 5 mths after I went to rehab I had two teeth pulled but I only took advil for the pain and I did ok with that. I have to have oral surgery in the next week and I will be given Vicodin but I am giving my husband the script and he will be giving them to me only if needed, I still dont trust myself to have them in my hands and its been 2 yrs. Root canals arent to painful afterwards so hopefully you can get by with some advil..Good Luck....shine

Hi tammylhf,

First, I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. I want to let you know that there are no Doctors on this Forum, only CP  {Chronic Pain}  Patients that help each other with our own expertise and experiences that we have developed through our own CP Issues.

I want to congratulate you on being able to recover from your addiction to Tramadol.  However, I'm sure you probably already know that answer to this question. I would think you would be in great danger of becoming addicted to the Lortab as you were to the Tramadol. The big question would be whether you could stop yourself from taking more than the 1 or 2 after the pain has stopped.  Another factor might be in how long you have been over your addiction to the Tramadol.

We have a wonderful Substance Abuse Forum here on MH that should be able to help you with your question much better than I can. I'm going to give you the link to that Forum and request that this post be moved over there for you.  :)

Here's the link:

From everything I've read on that Forum it will be next to impossible for you to take Pain Medication without being in danger of becoming addicted again.  They will be able to give you the information that you are looking for.

Again, congratulations on getting off the Tramadol and I wish you the very best.

Please know that you are always welcome here on the PM (Pain Management) Forum also................Sherry  :)
