Is chapstick really addictive?

I know this sounds rediculous, but I was wondering if chapstick is addictive.  I have been using chapstick daily, multiple times a day for the past 5  years.  When I dont use it, my lips become unbearably chapped.  I have quit using the nasty flavoured stuff because it just worsens the problems.  I have tried using blistex, vasoline, and just weaning myself off of it, but its not working.

I have the same problem that Melissa has.  I cannot do without Chapstick.  My lips get so dry they are unbearable.  My husband uses it several times a day also.  I couldn't find the doctor's answer to Melissa.  Do I have to go somewhere else to find it?

For the past year I have been using chapstick constantly. I never leave the house without it! And I put it on at least 3 times in an hour. People know me as 'The one who always has chapstick'. And whenever they need some they come straight to me. I buy like 6 chapsticks at a time, and I go through a whole tube in 2 weeks. I keep it in my pocket and when I accidentally forget, my heart beats fast like I am nervous. Is there any way I can stop being addicted?

This is not an addiction issue; however, the answer to your questions is that chapstick will, if used often, make your lips more chapped, etc.  If you want that to go away, stop with the chapstick altogether.  Substitute petroleum jelly (straight vaseline) with no additives.  This will lubricate the lips and stop the problem.  I know from experience this will work.

By the way, what you describe sounds to me like you may have a problem with obsessive-compulsive disorder.  You may want to think about whether you obsess over anything else in your life.  If so, you may want to consult a therapist.

People say that chapstick is not addictive but according to some other site such as http://www.kevdo.com/lipbalm/ it is addictive hmmmm .... could it maybe be the benzopheromone-2 they put in it? yes in my opinion because the chemical reaction when this chemical is mixed with scents like strawberry and vanilla it has a very powerful action on the body actually some chapsticks can be posionous when ingested such symptoms as intestonal problems chapstick can also be made into a skin stimulant kinda a gross way of making it but it works simply let the entire chapstick sit in a cup of coffee and the coffee will absorb into the chapstick and mix and make another chemical reaction which makes it into a super pleasure sexual stimulant for the genital region of the body the bacteria in coffee makes the benzopheromone-2 stronger this stuff can be highly addictive a man puts a little on his penis before sex and wow it sensitizes the nerves... I know because I found some of this stuff once at work I know it not very sanitary to use someone else's chapstick but I did and my g/f said it I was better in bed also I felt good for like 2 days.... anyway my conclusion lip balm is addictive and I am guessing by the smell of the lip balm that it was coffee that someone used unless you have an idea on what it might be??? whatever it was it smelled nice and sweet. well write to me if you know what it might be. ***@****
