Is there a drug out there that can help me quit OxyContin?

Hi all

Hey I know it's been a while now since I last posted, but with the risk of making this sound like an excuse, to be honest I've been feeling incredibly low for a while now and posting anything has been impossible.  The truth is I am so desperate to come off OxyContin I will try virtually anything...as long as it works!  I have tried to come off gradually by tapering etc but to no avail.  I tried to go cold turkey but as anyone who's tried that before would know, the depths of hell seems like a walk in the park compared to that!  I have found that Pregabalin (Lyrica) seems to lessen the craving significantly, to the point where I need only half the amount of Oxy I usually take to "get by" so to speak.  However in order for me to do that I have to take vast quantities of Lyrica, and getting hold of the kind of amounts I would need to facilitate a complete withdrawal would ring just about every alarm bell in my doctor's sugery!  I can get hold of some but not nearly enough.  Is there anybody out there be you professional/qualified or not (as the case may be) who can put me on the right track so to speak?  This awful drug is destroying my life to the degree  that I feel if I don't stop it soon I will go literally insane!!  I am desperate for answers guys so please please somebody help...please?

Take care ya'all

I wouldn't advise taking other medication unless you get it from a doctor.  Lyrica has its own set of side effects, and at high doses can be deadly.  If detox isn't an option, find someone who can nurse you for the next few days, get the amino acids and the thomas recipe ingredients and bite the bullet.  Don't say you can't do it.  All the energy you would use getting your OXY, put that energy into getting sober.

hi...goingtomakeit always says "you will quit when your desire to  quit is stronger than your desire to be high"  this is very true.  i was addicted to oxy and snorted 240+mgs per day.  i stopped c/t and as you say i visited the depths of hell.  but i knew i had to stick iy out.  i did and after 7 days i started to feel like i would live, maybe...lol  and while it still took a few months to get to the point i was liking life again...at 1o months clean i can tell you...i love life and the hell i went through was MORE than worth it.  it is not easy, but you said you would do anything to get off...so do whatever it takes.  get serious, get rid of all contacts and get clean.  truth is if i can do this you can too.  while there are drugs to help you get off you  would be trading oxy for an even more powerful opiate you would eventually have to w/d from that too.  you can read our members stories about suboxone in the health pages..bottom right of this page...they are on page 2....you will also find the thomas recipe and aminos protocol there.  they help alot with w/ds.  you can do this...make a plan and let us know what it is...we will help and support you through it.

I wish i had a miracle answer for you here but i dont.  This is going to be tough but the insanity you feel right now is alot worse than what you will feel getting off them.  It is hard i know but you can get thru it.  Load up on the vitamins and tell yourself you can do this.  There is a life out here waiting for you.  You dont have to be a prisoner to these pills anymore. Keep posting and stay strong          sara

Using either methadone or sub could well be a mistake. Do your homework very carefully on this stuff......seldom is another drug the answer here. Highly unlikely that you will totally escape the withdrawals entirely doing this. Research the medhelp archives via search engine and you will have lots of interesting reading. A walk through he** when you can see the way out is preferable to a lifetime of blind addiction and the consequences....And I do know where you are coming from....I do not regret my decision to just cold turkey and get it done....five or ten days of "flu like" symptoms can be done....many ways to make it easier on yourself....the methadone was a monster for me that lasted 2+ weeks of acute symptoms followed by months of mental battles.....sub is quite similar to methadone. Folks here have used either and then gone back to their DOC to get off entirely - - - best of luck to you regardless of what route you take...................................................eagle

Talk to your Dr, ask about Subxone or Lyrica, If oxy is destroying our life he needs to know so he can help you. In my personal experience w/ that evil pill ( I hated being on it )  I had to do something drastic to control the pain but ridding of the oxy's.
