Is there something to take to be able to work?

Coming off the pills, is there something to take that would at least enable those of us who have to work to be able to work?  I don't mean to sound like I'm looking for an easy way out..But I cannot miss work..I cannot afford not to function where I am at...Thanks...

If the w/d gets too bad why don't you call your doctor and be upfront with him.

I was not abusing my meds, but I felt as though I was becoming too dependant on them.  I was up to 6 Norco's a day for the last 6 months. My doc put me on a 2 week taper and I stuck to it.  I joined this board to "see what to expect" from a possible bad detox.  And to tell the truth, it hasn't been all that bad.  Today I took my last 1/2 pill.  I did have some shaky moments, but I worked every single day the past 2 weeks during this ordeal.  I also took an anti-inflammatory medication, a couple Tylenols + Zinc.  I also took a .25 Xanax 4 hours before bedtime.

If you can't hang on to your own pills without taking them all at once, either ask a friend OR ask your pharmacist to give you the amount you need even if it means going into the pharmacy 3x a day. (That is what I was going to do had I not been able to control myself.  But I was able to stick to my own schedule.)

I wish you good luck.

I stopped brewing coffee and went straight to chewing the beans! lol
The amino acids do help a lot.  I hope you will both try them.
You can do this!

I've been taking about the same...only 7.5 vic's...usually about 8 a day; more if I did something in the evening...I took my last couple just around noon today and now am out and I'm already starting to feel wtdrawal symptoms...or panic or whatever...I am trying to quit and am still at work and extremely uncomfortable...and I feel a headache coming on...I don't know what to do...I just want to go home and crawl into bed, but that's a good 2 hours away, and then what? I'm sooo not prepared for this...

Good for you in your 9th day w/o..God bless you and give you strength..I'm happy for you! ...I would love to be that far along...

Hi,  I don't know how much you were taking/day.  I was taking 6-8 7.5/500 percocets/day.  I'm in my 9th day w/o and I did work but I was EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE.  However not working was not an option for me.  I really didn't get much done for quite a few days.  I'm beginning to feel better physically.  I wish you luck as you attempt this.  You can do it.

All the best.

Thought of that...and I just may end up doing that...I don't want to even see him, truly...My hands are tied anyway, I can't get a hold of anything without the almighty dollar so I'm going to have to just bite the bullet and see it through..at some point I believe God boxes us in to where we have no choice but to do what is right..

Maybe you should try to get out of picking up your friend today.

Noooo, no one has a clue...They think I just have problems at home and am not myself some days...other days I'm great (hmmm, wonder why...). I'm trying hard not to panic, but it's there...What will be the hardest is I have to pick up a friend after work who will have them and I will have to fight the urge to get any...I've already told him not to bring them with or let me have any..I know others have done it and I am believing to be able to do it too, still, I won't lie, I'm dreading it and panicking...I want to do it as much as I don't and that's the truth...Like I've said, when it's a 'swallow" away, it's so hard to turn it down and face the grind to come...But the thought of feeling good again without swallowing a handful of pills and having my life (and money) back sounds awfully good too! ...Thank you all for being there...I'm going to try...Nice to hear it wasn't as bad as you anticpated it to be...

I take it that they don't know at work what is going on?
Don't panic about running out. Think of it as the beginning of getting better and over all this. Just play it a day at a time, or more like an hour at a time. If you start feeling that bad, simply tell them you are sick and cannot work. The flu?
I know it is scary. I was scared to death about it. But then when it came, it really wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be.
Just gotta prepare yourself and keep insisting you can do this. Look at all the people on here that have done it too. It is possible. And you will not be alone. Everyone here will be with you.

I do have a radio at my desk, and no one really bothers with me...But working around family I am always getting the questions of "what's wrong"...I mean I feel crappy and my head is aching and I'm in the legal field so I can't afford to mess up on documents-I play work on the computer like I'm accomplishing something when in reality, I'm biding my time to just get out of here...watching the clock...Finding another job at this point is so far away...And I know the feeling of having the pills makes it so much easier...Its so true, I can handle about anything as long as I have my 'meds'...Here I am just finishing the last of what I have, determined to stop and yet a part of my brain is racking itself for where can I find more...How sick is that? I am suppose to be quitting this, but panic mode is setting in of not having anything on the shelf...God help me....To think in a few hours I will be without...

Can you wear headphones and listen to music or whatever while you are working?

I've found that you can pretty much zone out that way. And usually everyone won't bother

you because they know you are listening to something.

On the other hand, i had to come to the realization that my job was just too hard to do without the help of a handful of pills every day. So i left it.It's not easy, but you have to look down the line and sooner or later you know it's not going to work forever.

I too think the vitamins helped.  The only one I was unable to find in any store was the DLPA. I went to three shops and none of them had it (GNC told me they stopped carrying it.. said probably because it doesn't require an RX. Hah!).

But after doing some further research this morning on DLPA, I ordered some online.  Read this article about DLPA:http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/dlpa.html

If you want to purchase online, you can get 60 caps here: http://www.vitacost.com/store/products/productdescription.cfm?SKUNumber=027434001069 - for $7.86. Or 300 caps for $19.95 here: http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-DL-Phenylalanine/cas-1

(I have no affiliation with either of these sites and don't earn anything from sharing these links)

I'm on Day 4 and working normal. You can do it!

You cannot afford not to function where you are?  Yep sounds like what I was thinking about my job too. I honestly didn't know how much better I would funtion at work after I got clean.
But to answer your question. It depends on the dose you were at and how long -what drug.  I saw the person on here called Rue went to work on the second day of wds. I'm pretty sure you will need a heat source to keep yourself comfortable. I used a thing called Snuggle Safe. Its a disc that you microwave and it stays hot for hours. I kept it in my shirt or sat on it when I had the chills and couldn't get in the hot tub.
Of course you will need immodium for the bowels.
Just tell yourself you never have to do the wds again. Tell your boss you aren't feeling well, could be flu, but you will do your best, that's all you can do.

Mare this is the amio acid protocol it helped ME alot. I did not miss any work ,don't get me wrong a few days I am surprised I made it threw but I did

Most of this program is from the book END YOUR ADDICTION NOW.. the doctor who wrote it ran a treatment facility in UPstate New york where they gave patients amino acids and vitamin via IV during treatment.. He also counsels patients individually.. All of these things are meant to rebuild activity in the major neuro transmitters.. as addicts our neurotransmitters have been disrupted by our use of drugs.. even stuff like cigarettes and eating alot of sugar can disrupt them.. with drugs however it can be more damaging.. I will list the aminos maily used for addiction, their dosages etc.. everything should be taken on a empty stomach... an hour b4 meals.. Take all of them together with lots of water... I have added stuff as I have done more research on this...

**Please check with your doctor or pharmacist for any interactions with any meds you may be taking.

B- vitamin Complex  100mgs, needed for absorption of aminos, rebuilding of the liver, reducing stress,  If you can get injections from your doctor that is even better.. I would buy the sublingual for best absorption

Multi mineral vitamin high potency formula , just good to take all around, addicts are using lacking many of the right vitamins and minerals, and alot of prescription drugs rob our bodies of nutrients.

5HTP-- this is what tryptophan gets turned into prior to being turned into serotonin in our brains. Serotonin is what is usually depleted if we are depressed and anxious.. Taking this will help with PAWS ( post accute withdrawl syndrome) or eliminate you suffering from them all together      DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE TAKING A SSRI OR TRICYLIC ANTI DEPRESSANT
Dosage-- up to 300mgs a day 3x DAILY ( I take 100mgs 3x per day, start with the lower dose and move up if needed)

L-glutamine--amino acid required for GABA production, that is the relaxing part of our brain.    up to 2000mgs 3x per day.. ( I take 1000 mgs 3x day, again start lower and work up if needed)

L-Taurine-- another "relaxing" amino  up to 1000mgs 3x daily

DLPA-- helps restore the function to the pain receptors working with the enporphins/enkephalins, can also help with pain if you are someone that suffers with some kind of legitamate pain. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE TAKING A SSRI OR TRICYLIC ANTIDEPRESSANT or if you have DIABETES or HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
Dose-- up to 2000mgs 3x per day (again you can start lower like 1000mgs 3x daily)

Sam-e-- aids in stress relief, depression, eases pain, and produces antioxidant effect that can improve the health of the liver 200-400mgs per day

Vitamin C-- use Ester c buffered form, detoxifies the system, and lessens cravings for drugs. Supports many body systems. Take 2,000mgs every 3 hours. Start with 1,000mgs and work your way up. Can cause loose stools, body will adjust.

Calcium 1,000mgs at bedtime Magnesium 1,000mgs at bedtime  nourishes the central nervous system and helps control tremors like RLS and other muscle spasms calms and relaxes the body, helps sleep.

If you find yourself really struggling with energy after being on the aminos you can add L-tyrosine to the mix in the early part of the day.. up to 1,500mgs..  This is not usually used in the treatment of pain pill addiction and can over stimulate some people I would say only take it if you are still struggling with energy after starting everything else..

If you find yourself having some anxiety the amino L-theanine is like natural valium.. It has helped me so much I no longer need to take xanax at all for my panic attacks

As far as sleep.. in my early days off of pills I took a sleep blend from GNC with a L-theanine and calcium magnesium liquid everynight and slept like a baby.

I suggest GNC to purchase this stuff they are pretty cheap (some stuff is only 4.99 a bottle)  they were also super helpful and knew alot.. I got a gold card to save some bucks in the future..

After a few months if you are feeling good you can taper the aminos back to once a day... then a few months after that a few times a week.. the best part about taking aminos instead of drugs is you don't have to take them forever to get the benefit.. the FIX the problem not put a band aid on it.

Protein shakes can be of great benefit.. protein is needed for rebuilding of nearly everything in the body.
