ADDICTION: SUBSTANCE ABUSE COMMUNITY
It's Not Fair

It's Not Fair

Why is it that when we develop dependency to cigarettes, antidepressants, food, and all the other drugs it's ok, but when we develop a dependency to opiates we are looked down upon.  I think it's really unfair-- treated like scum.  I don't know.......just ticks me off.

Nauty.............

i know.. i agree.

one of the only people i didn't feel judged by was my new doc.  he is SO kind, and totally gets the dependant nature of the pills.

(he told me an intersting fact today, too: he said of a hundred people using/being prescribed narcotics for long term, 98% WILL GET ADDICTED.) so who are these mother f***ers to judge? lol.

so i feel no judgement from him at all.  or you guys...

in fact, 2 (ex) friends judged me harshly.  one, a recovering fall down drunk, the other a food addict.

go figure...

I know what ya mean.  It's usually in the doctors office that I get those awful looks, that I'm some sort of low-life scum. Of all places that shouldnt be judgemental it should be at the doctors.
At one doctors appt. I refused to give them the satisfaction and ask for pain pills and asked for cortizone shots instead.  I could feel the looks and hear them whispering.  It just sucks period.
So how have you been Naugty ?  Haven't talked to you in a while. Big hug!     Mary

It sure is sad but true...and Mary, your post reminded me of a time I was in the waiting room at the doctors office. This girl came in all aggitated and late for her appt. The receptionist told her sorry, youre over 2 hours late for your appt we will have to reschedule you for next week. And this chick totally lost it! she went nuts! She started screaming and crying that she wasnt going to the pain clinic anymore and that she needed to see the doctor to get her pain pills TODAY. THe nurse wouldnt give in and this chick threw a fit, kickign chairs over and cussing them out and saying she couldnt wait til next week, she'd be dead by then. They had to call the police to get her out of the place! I remember everyone in the office saying she was a drug addict in withdrawl (withdrawal) which was probably true, but the way they said it and looked at her made me sad.  I myself could recognize it because I am an addict but I also understood the hell she must have been in at the time.
