Hey girl I was just thinking about you and POOF here you are!
I am beyond thrilled to hear of your progress and urge you to keep moving forward to make your life what you want it to be. The lack of motivation probably stems from the fact that you are not engaging in any aftercare. I know we've talked about this, and I have heard your reasons and understand...But I REALLY want you to succeed in this as you've battled so hard. You don't have to go the NA/AA route. I didn't. I found that SMART recovery and one on one counselling and EMDR was a powerful regime for me. Why don't you check out what services are available to you?
It's important that when we get clean that we take risks to put ourselves into a new way of thinking. When we do aftercare and take personal inventory, we learn new tools and coping strategies, as well as work through the demons that caused us to use in the first place. We need this to shore ourselves up so that when difficult things in life arise (and they always do) we have a strong base from which to deal.
Just speaking personally here-
If I had not (nor continued to) work a recovery program- then my current health crisis would have sent me into a downward spiral, and I shudder to think of where I would be right now without it.
Recovery builds confidence. Safety. Trust in one's self.
Please think about what I am saying and know that it comes from a place of love and an honest desire to see your continued recovery and the return of true happiness.
You deserve this.
Congratulations on your three weeks clean. I am proud of you and hope you are proud of you too.
