It's been seven months cince I've been on Morphine for back pain.

My Dr. first started me at 60mgs. Then he moved me up to 100mg. I've been on morphine for over seven months now and I want to get off but I have allot of trouble with stomach pains and other things regarding my memory. I asked him to referme to a Dr. that would take me off the morphine so he sends me to a specialist that doesn't take My kind of insurance. Which is medi-medi. So I have decided to get my own self off the morphine by taking 10mg. Valumes. With the morphine pilLs. I have been taking them and it's allot better thaN WHAT I WAS TAKING AT FIRST WHICH WAS THREE HUNDRED MGS. A DAY PLUS. THE VALUMES HAVE BEEN HELPING ME TO CUT BACK ON THE MORPHINE PILLS BUT THE VALUMES ARE MAKING ME FEEL GROGGY AND INCOHERANT. Real funny I hate what I am going through but I have nobody to ask about this and I am tired of going to College in this condition.
Please if there is anyone out there that can help me I would be most graciously happy.

be careful valium is addicting and dangerous to come off of once you are hooked.. i would research more docs to help you taper off properly.. call your insurance co.. and find another doc that does take your insurance..
there are people here who went cold turkey of morphine... it will be umcomfortable... can you trust yourself to taper yourself down??? some can't they give in to the extra pill.. i am here if you have questions not too many members on this late so I am here...and welcome to the site

hi, my name is tammy and if you want to stay in college but dont want to go through withdrawls i suggest getting on the methadone program and have them do a therapeudic detox. it might take a while, but your life will not stop. please dont try this on your own. and the valium, well thats just another habit. dont take those. i dont see how anybody can take benzos and opiates together without being drowsy. its not a good drug either. i really think you should try the methadone. thanks, my name is tammy, and im new here. ive been lurking around for a few days. i like this site. i didnt know about it before when i was going through the withdrawls. anyway, ive gone through it and it aint fun!!!!

I quit morphine (350 mg/day) cold turkey. I avoided benzos and anything else requiring a script. Acute withdrawal was intense for a few days, but I wouldn't have missed a single day of work had I quit on a Thursday night, left early on Friday, and stayed in bed Saturday and Sunday. As it was, I missed 2 days of work. Anyway, it gets better and you don't need valium, just time combined with education and support.

Another poster recommended methadone, which is certainly a good option for some. But it's also an opiate and you will have w/d when you quit methadone as well.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
