It's crazy

It's crazy

I think about it now and it blows my mind.....None of the doctors i dealt with over the last couple years ever talked about W/D. I knew about it and all, but it seemed like they were always beating around the bush or avoiding the topic.
I dont fault them in anyway for what happened to me but it sure seems wild that this subject never came up.
The PM doctor that i just recently started with seems like a good guy, but the 1st time i went to him i had planned on talking to him about other ways to deal with pain as i had a big problem with pain pills. I had all kinds of things written down to discuss with him. I never got a chance to even open my notebook. He went over the Lymes results that my doctor had sent he asked a few questions then said "(120) 15 mg oxycodones a month be honest with me and i'll see ya soon" Then i never saw him again it was always some nurse after that.

Now i did not put up any type of fight at all...so i'm not bashing him at all. I'm sure that if i had said "hold on i have aproblem with narcotics" he would have worked diff with me. But i didnt. Then i went in the second time 10 days early saying that i had run out early. They never spoke of it again never asked if i needed another dosage or if i was having problems...nothing.

So i just wanted to vent.......and so i did.

Vent away, drs don't seem to talk about it much at all. I agree, that and with things like Trams they (many or most) still think it's no biggy.

i have gotten to where i would rather see the nurse practictioner in my town.  She spends more time with her patients and she listens to what we have to say.  When I went with the initial gallbladder pain, she wanted to give me tramadol and I said no because I had heard too many horror stories.  I also told her about my addiction problem and she gave me a script for 5 mg lortab.  This was all in the presence of my husband and when we got the script filled, he held the pills as always.

The point I am trying to make is that many doctors have the "God" complex and try to make you feel like they know better than anyone else and the NP listens to your problems.

Yeah...I think having the husband or wife hold the pills is the only way an addict could ever use pills the right way.

I wonder if doctors tell pt's about the horrors of Xanax before they start them on it ?

I ask b/c i have a friend who's life has been ruined over xanax and there dosent seem to be ant saving him.

the doctors DON'T talk to the patients about the horrors of xanax either. I went to my general practitioner, one week into withdrawal from norco, I told them everything and he gave me 120 xanax and tried to refer me to a physiciatrist and said see you on the 25th. Sooo, no he said NOTHING to me about addiction or anything, knowing that I was detoxing off taking pain meds. for 5 years. WTF? So, I can't go to the physc, because of no insurance coverage. my doctor is going to have to deal w/ me now and help me get off the benzos. hope you're feeling good, and good post!! :)

It's crazy....I had to figure alot of my condition out by myself as well.

I was having these horriable eye problems about 5 years ago. I went to lots of doctors even ended up at Washington Hospital Center at a reumatologist (spelling ?). She was pretty good. The whole time i was study eye problems (dry eyes).
I was also having other problems, numb on top of head and pain when sitting. I never put any of this together they seemed to be seperate things.

2 years ago i went to a doctor and said " look i'm not here for pain meds....im not here for a note to get out of work....I just have to know whats going on. Now here's the test i need you to run and if you have any thoughts to add that would be great ! "

Thats when we found out that the Lymes was off the chart and that it had never gone away in 1987 as it was treated wrong.

I thought i was going to cry....but i was kinda happy to really know. I remeber the doctor kept apologizing i think because it took me telling him exactly what to do to finally get this solved. I'm pretty sure he had written me off as crazy or a drug seeker.

It is cool that his thoughts of me have changed so much. He treats me with alot of respect now.

I know doctors see so many pt's that its hard to be right all the time. I also noticed that they have like "default actions" they assume what you are there for and try to just give you that and send you on your way.

Can u tell me where these doctors are because none of the docs in NJ will prescribe pain killers for back or abdomen pain...they are afraid of addiction.  They are all very cautious about narcotics here.

Yeah there really not here.....I rember asking a question on the PM side of this site and someone thought that i was trying to find a way to score with doctors.....and i was like trust me its no problem where i live. I can get them from doctors or walk down the street. I know its sad but true.

Well, I have to say I don't do the Nurse Prac. myself. I saw one back in July when my initial ear ordeal started and she said my ear was irritated (it was bleeding and hurt like crazy) and gave my some hydrocortisone type drops. Well, the bleeding didn't stop and I didn't really trust her DX and the dr couldn't see me for 10 more days....so I went to Urgent Care 3x and they said I just had a bad infection. It bleed for 5 days. (not gushing of course...but blood coming from my ear) So when I finally get in w/a good doctor one that isn't from Oklahoma he said immediately that my eardrum had already perforated and was healing over and the antibiotics and drops I had were not nearly strong enough or the right thing for what I had.

On the other subject... my previous doctor put me on klonopin & zoloft...refills for  6 months ..see him once every 6months unless sick. So when my 6m check up came around I called like 2wks before to change the time. They had closed their office!!! I did not get the "letter" the RECORDING said was sent. I only knew about w/ds from my klonopin from the forum...luckily my new good doctor that took his place (but he had a 3month wait due to all the new patients) got my chart and refilled my meds before he saw me. He explains everything to me...spends time in the office with me etc.. I really hope he sticks around! LOL

Ok..there is my venting!!! LOL :)

Thats crazy about your ear. I would think that when a pt keeps coming in or goes to ER 2-3 times real quick and about the same thing that they would listen and really check.....but i think they see so many people doing the same thing that have nothing wrong that they think everyones up to something.

When i really get to my wits end   I will say look "i'm not here for pain pills and i dont need a letter....i really think something is wrong" That gets them to put there gaurd down a little.

I ran some work in my local hospital for a couple months as we updated thier ER. I would talk with the staff sometimes and they said one of the big problems is young people coming in on Monday morning trying to get out of work or use it as reason why they were not at work on time.......Thats crazy !!!!! but as i have about 20 guys that work for me ...I believe it.

Well...when you go to the urgent care you see whoever is on duty that day...so none of them knew how it looked the week before. Why they didn't notice the perforation? Dunno!

I worked w/a lady who was an ambulance driver....she told me (sounds unbelievable but almost believable but she swore it was true) on Friday & Sat nights they would get calls from our "rough" side of town and they would bring them to the nicer part of town to the hospital..and then the people would ditch! They were just wanting a ride to the other side of town!!! So I see why the medical field could get burned out real quick. I (when I work) work in the front office (MRI center) and even I got burned out and we didn't see patients over and over. Well, with the exception of the people who have everything wrong with them.

OK... I think I'm babbling! LOL
