Ive Failed

OK, i think quitting smoking is harder than Vics!! this sucks so bad. I already failed yesterday on my 1st day of quitting. I smoked 7 cigarettes (as opposed to my usual 15-18) and had one this morning too. The worst part is, my husband doesnt know. He is the Smoking-Nazi. He hates it and he has said some stuff about what would happen if he caught me ever smoking again after my quit date. You would think that would deter me alone aside from my more important reasons for quitting. But i put all that out of my mind when i light up.  When i cant have a smoke when Im really stressed out I turn into superbitch too and i hate this.  WHen i quit pills, it just made me sick with WD's (and yes the mental cravings too of course but i was more just crying/depressed feeling when i couldnt have pills...not angry and bitchy like I am now when i want a smoke) I dont know what to do now. We are going to my moms later today for Easter and i wont be able to smoke there without him smelling it on me (no one over there smokes and its hard to sneak out when we are there without him noticing- not to mention he'd smell it on me as soon as i came back in. OVer here its easier to disguise because i have to do the woodburner fire and the smoke from that gets on me so it covers it up better. anyhow I guess theres no real point to this post other than to let you guys know i've failed at quitting smoking and if my husband finds out I"ll be REALLY IN TROUBLE here!

I agree with a few others here (the patches), but you have to find out what works best for YOU. I slapped on a 21mg (highest timed-released dose) in the mornings, and started to get a rush on the way to work ... after about five days of the patch thing, I was tired of the feeling of nicotine, dermally absorbed (it's kind of like shooting up), so I put the rest in storage, keeping one or two for emergencies. I lasted a year, which is a pretty good run. The cravings pop out of nowhere, even for people who've stopped for 10+yrs., but they're just annoying, random events which pass.

Always have a patch handy, follow the directions, and, well, the nicotine's there if you need it, without the gas pollution in your blood.

Regarding the ham, I can't face a steaming pig's buttocks, but if you cook lots of cabbage, you can burn tires and no-one will notice ...

I agree with you and think that quitting smoking is harder than quitting vics. I quit smoking once for 8 months. The problem was that I didn't quit b/c I wanted to - I quit for a boyfriend. As soon as that ended, I lit up immediately. You have to want to do this for YOU.
Don't be so hard on yourself. Nicotine is a very powerful drug. Have you tried using the patch? That was one thing that really helped me last time.
I tried the Chantix last week but unfortunately was allergic to it so had to stop taking it. I have heard lots of good things but also some pretty serious side effects so anyone thinking of trying that, please do some research first and talk to your doc.

Hey...right there with you at the moment. I'm trying to quit for the second time starting today. I've been saying all week that the pack I was on would be my last...but needless to say I've been smoking like a chimney all week. The first time I tried to quit a year ago...I actually succeeded and stayed smoke free for 5 months. The first two weeks were killer on me. It was a damn good thing that my hubby and I have an amazing relationship after being together 10 years...'cause hell...I wanted to divorce myself!! I've NEVER been as bicthy as I was during those first two weeks. When I got stressed...I just felt so helpless and usually ended up crying for no damn reason! But...it did get better. After the two weeks...I found that I could even be around other people who were still smoking and it didn't even bother me. There were times where I still thought I wanted a cigarette...but I filled the void by grabbing an apple or gum or something like it. At the time...I had been told by my doctor that I was pregnant...so motivation was easy to find. I ended up miscarrying and started smoking again a few months after. Really wish I'd never started again! But...it can be done...and I've got one smoke left and I'm determined to be done after that. I want to have kids...so my goal is to be as healthy as I've ever been...and that means quitting everything!! I'm just trying to tackle them one at a time.

Problem with any addiction is that YOU have to want to quit...it can't be because you know you have to or your spouse wants you to...YOU have to want to.

Best of luck to you...and you wont be alone...I'll be going through it with ya.

Happy Easter!
Melanie  :)

Hey Trouble...

Yea...I know firsthand how hard it is to quit smoking.  The first 3 days are your physical withdrawls...I wanted to sleep.  During that time and afterwards, you have to figure out what your triggers are...driving, after eating, tired, etc...and then recognize the triggers and do something else...yea...it suks but one puff and your back again...

here's a site I check out for this ...  www.whyquit.com

good info there....

BTW - I'm 37 days smoke free and still have cravings but the urges are decreasing in intensity...the first week, i was a mofo too....just pumped it hard at the gym to compensate...

Peace,

Nick

The only problem I could see with that plan is unless you are good at rolling from the start it may look like you are smokin' J's. You know twisted ends....LOL

Trouble:
Do you roll your own smokes or do you buy a certain brand? The reason that I ask is because when one of my family members tried to quit and was not successful at it, they decided to start rolling their own instead of smoking their usual "name brand" smokes because money was obviously one of the reasons that wanted to quit. Anyway, my point is that when they started rolling their own, they really cut down and quit with-in a few weeks because the rolled tobacco was not the same as the regular brand and they did not really like it, and also, they got tired of taking the time to roll the smokes, so it really helped them see that they hated things about smoking and it helped them a lot. I don't know if that makes sense or is an option for you. Maybe. I just thought I would offer you that info. Hope you can have a wonderful Happy Easter!!! Enjoy those kids!!!

trouble, funny , i only made it 7 hours when i tried to quit last week. cigarettes are really hard, i think we need some help, specially when ya smoke long as we did. i tried the patch in december, went bout a week, but stress drove me back. my mother used a new med called chantex or chantix, and im going to talk to my doc this week about trying them. if they help me out (my moms quit) i will let ya know.and tell ya hubby to chill, we are addicts!! if ya arent on the pills, tell him ONE thing at a time, and it will take time. best of luck, ill letcha now on the meds, and have a great easter....

Don't be so hard on yourself. At 'east you are trying.  You did not kick the vicks the first time right. Take it slow don't task load yourself by expecting perfection.  You can do this.  Maybe a day by day taper plan. Pick yourself up dust and do it again until you get right.  Keep on fighting. You have it in you to seceded.

Awww I am so sorry.  I so know how tuff this one is.  We lost our brother to lung cancer and I still haven't been able to quit.  I feel like such a fool.  It's a really tuff addiction. They say to keep trying eventually you will get it.  I found the patch really took the edge off.   Hugs    Mary
