Killing Two Birds with one stone and didn't even realize it!!

Ok, so I am now at 111 hours. And it just occurred to me. I am actually getting rid of TWO addictions at one time and I didn't even realize it!! I am wondering if that is one of the reasons why my symptoms (RLS, etc. has been so bad).

You see, I have been a MAJOR Mt. Dew drinker since I was about 10 years old. I drink at LEAST 4-5 24 oz. bottles EVERY DAY. (Crazy I know. I don't know how I don't have diabetes.) But I just realized that since starting this whole process I have had exactly ONE 20 oz bottle of Mt. Dew!! Partly just because I haven't wanted it because I want to sleep but also because I read that it can make RLS worse. So I just had that epiphany that since I have cut back so hard on the caffeine I KNOW that has to be making this worse since the symptoms for caffeine withdrawal are almost identical to those of opiate withdrawal. (flulike feelings, headaches, anxiety, restlessness, inability to concentrate)

That actually makes me feel EVEN better!!! WOOT!!! Getting two drugs out of me and GOING STRONG!!!!

Hang in there everyone and YOU WILL MAKE IT!!! I am on Day 5 and ItIsTime was right I truly do have a new lease on life already!! Sure, I don't feel anywhere near perfect and am still extremely uncomfortable but I can definitely notice improvement every day!!

I also notice myself appreciating all the little things ALOT more! (Even little things like how blue the sky is, or just spending time shopping with my fiancee, talking with friends, etc.) I am not thinking about what time I can take that next pill.

You guys truly ROCK!!! You have no idea of the help you have given me through all of this. Just knowing that others are going through the same thing and making it makes it a bit easier. Sometimes it takes the worst things in life to bring out the best in people.

For all of you just starting out or struggling through those first few days, just hang in there and I PROMISE it will be SOOOO worth it!!!

I will keep you posted on my progress!

How is everyone else doing?

It really is. Like I said, I am still in a lot of discomfort but just seeing some improvement is really helpful. I know that I am heading in the right direction and am getting there!

Hoping that the RLS is calmer tonight but at least no work tomorrow!

Congratulations to you as well!!

What's up with the Mountain Dew? I don't think I ever tasted it. And for sure now--I am not going to!!

Like you said, it is probably the caffeine. I used to be a big coffee drinker and I had to cut back because I was developing systs. I got such headaches from the withdrawal, it was unreal!

Well, Jersey...good for you! It's like "two for Tuesday"...LOL

Good Luck.

It is so good to hear that you have broken through.  It has made my day.  I know exactly what you mean by enjoying the little things.  It's like I was in a fog before, and now all the things that I had forgotten about are coming back.  The brain is one extra ordinary thing.

8 days - 0 pills - 1,000,000 reasons to be thankful!

Congratulations Jersey!

hehe yeah. I guess I just didn't want to jump the gun on the days. :)

I'm not quite in a place yet where I can give up the smokes too. I do plan to, I just think it would be a little much right now. (I think that might be a bit harder since my fiancee smokes too.) I am going to get through this before I tackle that one.

Carrie,

I was the same way with the Dew. It was what got me through the day...(But just saying that out loud is pretty telling isn't it?) But I really do think I will feel better without it.

I was surprised at how much my pill addiction was keeping the other addictions alive.  While taking pills I was going through a 12 pack of diet coke and two cans of copenhagen a day.  The day I quit the pills the caffeine and tobacco went with it.  It's incredible how deceptive addiction is.

PS.  I think you can count in days now brother.  You're well into day 5, way to go!!  Love and Strength to you all the way!

yeah. It's the caffeine. I am not even saying anyone else should quite drinking it. I just am really glad to be myself! :) (I have actually heard diet mt. dew can be wors because of the aspartame but I don't know if that is true. Can't stand the stuff myself.)
